The use of "closet" for "toilet" dates back to 1662
Related forms include earth closet and water closet (W.C. or flush toilet). "Privy" meaning an outhouse derives from "private", making the connection with the Middle English use of "closet" !!!!!

I am trying to think what Linda is meaning ... Closet as in our Walk in Wardrobe or just a normal built in wardrobe !!!  In our house in Perth, in the main bedroom we had a walk in wardrobe. It was great but it was a big house.  The second big bedroom had a Built IN Wardrobe, the other 2 bedrooms did not have any.
Here we did not have any wardrobes in the 2 bedrooms, but in the spare bedroom room I bought a small free standing wardrobe to hang up some clothes and to pile excess stuff in the bottom !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a lot of closet info Darien, VERY GOOD!
The closet in this room would be like our closets in the bedrooms except that we don't have glass doors, they are wooden.  We have two rooms upstairs with these closets because when the house was first built these were our bedrooms.  When we finished the lower level we  made 3 bedrooms so we have three closets downstairs like this picture.  Now the rooms upstairs are this room used as an office and the one across the hall we call our TV room, it's like a little living room.

OIC, you call it a built in wardrobe, maybe I can remember that.    Ours is like the one in the picture, but not so grand either, the one in the picture has 3 doors and we just have two but that's basically how ours looks and we just call it a closet.

Bwahahahaha Oh a built in wardrobe with mirror doors Linda ... very posh. Bonnie and Dan have one in their bedroom and it is an old house.  Other wardrobes I have had were usually built in with wooden doors ... apart from the 'walk in' wardrobe in Perth.
Right Darien I think we have exhausted this subject a few times before   :-\   ;D  :D

WHAT?  I thought we weren't discussing closets anymore or wardrobes.  Here is the deal, in the United States of America when we have a place to store our clothes, shoes, purses, etc. and it is built into our houses, we call that a CLOSET no matter what kind of door it has on it, wood, glass or whatever. .  IF we have a free standing piece of furniture where we can store named items above, we call THAT a WARDROBE or  ARMOIR .  I know this is wrong in your eyes but this IS how it is HERE!
