Brother Walter
« on: June 17, 2020, 09:21:52 pm »
Got a message today from Jessica, S Moira's daughter in England. S Moira does NOT do computers as I have been asking Jessica to teach her  !
Anyway Jessica was saying how John's oldest brother Walter is very ill. I think I mentioned how John had finally got Walter's new phone number from his ex wife Kate, and spoke to him last week or so. ( I am explaining everything as clearly as I can Linda in case you are struggling tomorrow to understand it   ;D)  We knew Walter was having problems with his bladder but according to Jessica he had bladder cancer.
A few years ago when we lived in Perth, you may remember how John had prostate problems, possible cancer and in the end he had his prostate out .... he was told that was the safest solution. No problems since ( I don't care if he cannot get it up !!!!!!!!!!!)
Walter was also diagnosed with prostate cancer around the same time but Walter would not have his out so he had Radiation only.  A few years down the track the prostate cancer came back and has gone to his bladder. According to Jessica it is not looking very good.
So much cancer going round it is horrible.  I also tried ringing my mate Pat in Wales but there was no answer, I hope she is OK too :(

(((((((((((((((((((((((Walter)))))))))))))))))))))))  I did know and remember some of this about Walter and thanks for the explanation Moira.
Larry's urologist is so fussy about Larry coming in often  to be sure the bladder cancer has not returned.  He says that bladder cancer is a horrible way to die and he doesn't want his patients to go that way.   Walter probably should have his bladder removed but maybe it's too late?  I'm so sorry to hear this news.
You are right, there is so much cancer and it's just what I think every week when I go for chemo and see all the people who are in the same boat as I am and some way worse and it's only one day of the week.  It would look that way 5 days a week.

Is it because we are getting older that so many of our friends and rellies... also older,  are suffering from the dreadful cancer ? Linda,  Are the people you see every week more in the older bracket  or are they differing ages ?
John is not saying much about Walter really just that Rebecca, his daughter is looking after him as best she can but Rebecca has left her partner and she works full time and has her son Jack (6) to take care of also.  She is trying to get some sort of home help for him. He is home in his own flat and has a ...what do you call that bag for his urine ? .. cannot remember and I don't want to ask John ! John said last night that Walter should have had his prostate out years ago !

Oh my, a man as sick as Walter probably shouldn't be living alone.  Could he afford to go to an assisted living apartment or does he maybe just not want to live at a place like that?  He's probably too sick to even think about having to move anywhere.
I really thought, not sure why, that I would be the oldest person having chemo but I was SO WRONG, I see way more old people.  I see a few young people.  Yesterday I saw a very pregnant young woman and I felt so sad to think that she is taking chemo at her age and pregnant.  I can't imagine that it's very good for the baby but they wouldn't do it if it wasn't okay I guess.   I guess a lot of the older people aren't as old as I am, but they are definitely not young.  I wouldn't say it's 50/50 young and old......it's more like 25/75.  There are so many and what I see is only one day a week..  Cancer is such an awful disease and there are so many kinds and so many people have it.   I asked the nurse who was helping me yesterday if they do any children there and she said they do not do children.  If children need chemo they go to the big hospital in Iowa City where I go for my eyes.   Keep us posted on Walter.

Urostomy bags, I just looked it up. How sad that Walter is on his own most of the day while Rebecca is at work, that must be so very hard on her. You are right Linda, as get older more of those around us have grown old along side of us and more Cancer is attached to us that way :(

Yep, that is true, we live longer and so I suppose it's inevitable that many of us end up with cancer.

I have never heard of a Urostomy bag !!! Colostomy yes as Cath had one :(  I am sure Walter can afford a care place but I am sure he would hate it !
So there are quite a few older people when you go for your chemo Linda.  I suppose that is to be expected but there seems to be more and more nowadays and some of them are younger.

Yes, more older than younger people.  I have heard of a Urostomy bag but I couldn't think of the name of it.
