It's a very hard situation for them both and perhaps there could be an easier way, do you think? I don't think Joe wants to go anywhere though, does he? Can't say as I blame him either. (((((((((((((((((((((Joe & Susie))))))))))))))))))))

There is independent living where Mary lives, meals, cleaning and no food and there are assistant living places where both Joe and Susie could live, they would have meals and a nurse on duty, etc. and there are nursing homes where you get full care but Joe doesn't need that, I don't think they would even take him and they only have rooms, not apartments.  There is nothing where a normal person and a helpless person can live together.

Oh so sad for both Joe and Susie.   

I now have to wonder if there is such a place here in case John and I need a similar service ! I have never looked into it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! John is getting a bit deaf and drifty ....like his Dad but his dad lived to 93 in a rest home in the end  !!!!. I THINK I am OK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP I think I am  like Yar and she was fine till she fell over ..... at almost 94 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Help,  I will not sleep tonight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thinking thinking !!!.........................

Oh dear, I have caused you a sleepless night.  Not everyone ends up in a nursing home and you probably won't.  I don't even think about it and I'm OLD and soon will be another year older.  Larry and I have never looked at assisted living places, NOTHING, we are in denial I guess.  We just want to stay where we are.

If there are places where there is assisted living, meals and a nurse on duty etc, why couldn't they live there?

Well, Susie is totally helpless and those places don't provide all the help she needs.  She simply can't do anything so a nursing home is where she has to be and Joe needs no help but yet he can't do all that Susie needs to keep her at home.

I agree Darien !  How come Susie is so totally helpless ? Can she not do anything at all to help herself ? Can she even get out of bed by herself ?   Can she even walk at all ? She can obviously speak and her mind works so is it just her movement .. legs, arms etc that are  not working ?  ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Susie))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Susie can't get out of bed, she can't stand not even for a second so she certainly can't walk.  She has only one hand that works, the other one just dangles.  She can speak just fine and her mind is good except for her short term memory.

OH goodness then really and truly Susie does need to be in total care (((((((((((((((((((((Susie)))))))))))))))))))))))  I did not remember how bad she really was seeing as her mind seems to be working ! It must be sooooo frustrating for her ! Do you think she feels frustrated when she cannot move as she would like to ? ?  Or is she used to it by now ?

It has been a long time now since Susie has been able to get around on her own.  It all came pretty gradually so Susie had time to accept each stage as she went along.  Susie copes with things, whatever it is and this being totally handicapped is no exception.  She just does what she can do and she never complains or even seems frustrated.  I would think she would be and probably is but she doesn't show it to the world.  Total care is what Susie has to have now.

Is Susie on medication for her MS?  It must be very hard for you to watch her end up like this and my heart goes out to you both ((((((((((Linda & Susie)))))))))))

Yes, she has a pump implanted that dispenses medication for MS but I'm not sure what it does.  For sure it doesn't allow her to take even one step or stand.   Maybe it just slows down the progression a little bit.

It all sounds so horrible and I suppose as it has been coming on for Susie for so long then maybe she is just glad to be alive and her mind working (((((((((((((((((((((((((Susie))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Not sure how I would cope with it :(

Maree won't take any of the meds, she says they don't stop MS and they don't agree with her. Her last specialist visit, earlier this month, was not good. She has more lesions on the brain and her MS is progressing quickly :(
