Three Friends

Sue was telling me the latest incident concerning Don, you know he is the one with the Alzheimer's-like ailment.  Yesterday they were out and she needed a card to send to a friend and Don didn't want to go in the store with her.  She parked right in front of the store and ran inside to grab a card.  Unfortunately she left the keys in the car and Don drove off.  He drove over to the house where they had lived for years and walked up to the door and right inside.  The door wasn't locked.  Two teenage girls were home and they were scared to death to have this strange man walk in and start looking around and calling for Sue.  They got him outside and then locked the door but he kept pounding to get back in.  They called the police.  In the meantime Sue had found Don and the car gone so she called the police.  By the time she got to her old house there were 3 police cars there.  Sue went up to the door to explain to the girls that Don would never have hurt them and they said they were sorry they had called the police.  She told them they had done the right thing because whenever a stranger walks into your house, you DO SOMETHING about it.  I'll bet they keep their doors locked in the future.  Poor Sue, she has so much with Don, Mikayla, her kids and the new baby coming.   

I know she has said he is getting worse and she is dreading, and putting off, placing him in a facility.
She really REALLY doesn't want to do that.  She was married to a big jerk the first time and divorced him and found Don who has turned out to be the "love of her life".  I suppose she will at some point realize that it is best for him and all concerned for him to live in a nursing home.  Don has a daughter here in town and a son in Iowa City but Sue gets almost no help from them at all.

I think sometimes Sue pays to have someone come in and stay with him but nothing regular, just now and then.
