Same here, it's been many years since I caught a bus or train anywhere and I am not about to start now!!!!

While you two are busily creaming your feet, I tried to dry my right foot the way I always have before I hurt my hip, and only managed to hurt my hip again!!!! Now it aching and kept me awake off and on last night

I don't think I have used a bus since I HAD to drive when we first got to NZ 1986 !  John says we used a London double decker bus to the airport before we left UK to fly to NZ ! 

Like you too Linda I did use a bus daily in Cambridge after I left school and we lived just outside Cambridge and I got a job in a department store in Cambridge. I did not stay working  there too long, boring and my mate Janet and I got a job in Loch Awe in Scotland and we took the train !!!!
My Mum never did learn to drive nor did Cath but Ange did eventually pass her driving test after 3 goes .... but she never felt confident enough to drive very far !!!!
Only I had a full driving licence and if you recall ....  I did get it under suspicious circumstances !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took some extra pain meds last night, so I slept much better and the hip is not quite as sore this morning. It will take a few months to heal, so I have to be patient and a bit more careful.

Moira, Can you put up the site again of the place you used to work at in Switzerland again, please? I was trying to tell Robert how the beds are left partially unmade and you have to do your duvet yourself and I waned Robert to see how they 'made' the beds up and I can't remember the name of the place.

My Mother never learned to drive either, but I think lots of women of that generation did not drive so it wasn't too  unusual. 
I can't remember how much I paid to ride the city bus back in 1966, I wonder?

I just looked at our bus website and I see it costs $1.50 now.  I suppose maybe I paid a quarter??

I used to travel by train when I worked in Sydney, in the city. Also when I was in high school I caught a bus and train.

So you had to ride a bus or train to school?  Public transportation and not a school bus?  Do some kids there ride a school bus as they do here?  I don't think that's something we have ever talked about??  I don't think Jack and Cash go to school by bus and if they lived here there would be a bus.

We do have school buses, but not like your yellow ones, just normal buses that are allocated as school buses for a certain time of the day. I used to catch public transport though. When I was in primary school though, I used to walk to and from school.

So you know our yellow school buses?   I never rode a bus to school in Oelwein nor did my kids here in Waterloo, except for Tim who rode the bus one year.  At that time he went to a school which was over 2 miles from our house.  In Waterloo, if you live 2 or more miles from school you get a free ride.

I think School buses work similarly here Linda,  that if you live a certain distance from the local school there is a bus available !

Thanks Moira Funnily enough we were watch a travel show over the weekend and one of them was in Switzerland and Robert got to sss how they left the bed for guests! I just can't conceive of going to a 5 star hotel and having to make one's own bed!!!!

SO they STILL do the duvets like we did back in 1958 ish ??????      Darien you really only have to toss / shake your duvet ( normally only singles so easy to do )  into place in these posh hotels because they are Feather and Down and IF they were already spread over the bed you would just get into the bed normally as if they were blankets BUT they NEED to be fluffed up to create the warmth needed !  I am sure you know THAT is the secret of a Feather and Down or ....... Down and Feather duvet ?????   Lots of .... English people or maybe American  eg. Linda .................  would perhaps not even know that as they still use blankets !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did used to get the bus to school when I was 5 in Leeds and again when I was 9-11 in RAF Cottesmore .... but after that it was boarding school apart from the school holidays when we got the train  ! About 5 hours to get from Newcastle to Skipton in Yorkshire :)

Yes I know you should shake your feather duvet out, but I shake mine in the morning when I make the bed and it is still lovely and warm when I get into bed later that evening. It just seems like a weird concept to me as I am not used to it. When we go to posh hotels in the UK, they have feather and down quilts and the beds are made up already to climb in. perhaps the Swiss and Swedish hotels are colder and therefor need to be shaken out just before bed??
