Last year we went to Lankawi, a small island off the coast of Malaysia. We were going to go to Thailand, but the price was double the cost of going to Malaysia!!!! We still intend going to the UK in March, so we decided to go to Malaysia for Christmas instead.
No one has mentioned Christmas again this year, it was always me who organised it, but once I stopped, no one has taken over. We did have a BBQ last year to see everyone before we left, but I don't want to do that this year. The way I figure it is if they want to see me, they know where I live.

I can't imagine vacationing at Christmas.  It would no doubt be a great time because so many people wouldn't be vacationing then and it would be less crowded.  If one of your girls wants to have Christmas with you and Robert they can do it.  Could you and the girls just talk about it together?  I imagine you would still enjoy having holidays with your family but you don't fee like you can continue to host it.  It seems like you could talk with the girls about that and then maybe they would offer?  It's a really big group, and a lot of work.  When Larry's family got too big we used to rent a community room and we all brought food and had holidays that way.  We don't do it anymore, we just don't get together.

Goodness that is so much hassle Linda having to rent a community hall for a family Christmas .... I suppose some BIG families do it but it is not something we have ever done !
Granny Greta Casey used to do the big Casey Christmas dinner in UK  but the Casey girls all helped too !

Of course it is easier here as it is Summer and the family gatherings can be outside and not involve all the Northern Christmas HOT dinner stuff :) SO much easier I Do have to say ! NOT as festive as in UK because of the weather really but still ... easier !

After the carry on last year Darien I am not surprised you want a bit of peace and to do your own thing again.  You can always have a gathering earlier or later ...... than 25th !

A lot of people travel at Christmas, some with families and others, like Robert and myself, on their own.
What is there to talk about Linda? We have talked until I am over it all, I won't be blamed or put down for being who I am and that is what they have both done to me, more Kylie than Belinda. To be honest, I wouldn't enjoy a Christmas with Kylie as I would be worrying over saying the wrong thing!!!! The damage has been done and can't be undone, Kylie believes that she has done nothing wrong, what she must realise now that sometimes you can hurt someone so badly that there is no coming back. I want to enjoy my life, not be constantly being careful of what I say or do.

It really wasn't a hassle at all to rent the room.  There was a small kitchen and lots of tables and chairs and everyone brought food.  It was really easier than for one person to have it in their home and way too many people.  Eventually we did stop getting together for holidays, it was after Larry's mother and stepfather passed away.   You definitely wouldn't have holiday dinners here outside, well maybe at Easter if Easter is late but you couldn't depend on the weather.

I have to say I Am with you Darien regarding being able to say what you want to say ...... especially at any family gathering !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Apart from using foul language but then I would tell you to STOP IT ! !

I suppose it depends on where abouts you live Linda and I DO remember in the small village in Exton, UK where we went to the Catholic Primary school ...... ... I was 9/10 and Ange 6/7 years old and the school put on a Christmas Lunch in the local village hall for the pupils and any villager who wanted to share :)  Nice memory :)

I know you have decided, and rightly so, to go on with your life and not allow Kylie (especially) to ruin things for you.  It's so hard for me to imagine this kind of relationship even though you have told us all about it.  I keep wanting you to be able to have a NICE family holiday together and not have this situation spoil it for you.   You and Robert need to enjoy each other's company and live your lives in a way that best suits you and NOT ME!   I can't imagine leaving my family at Christmas or any special holiday because my situation is different from yours so forgive me for suggesting you talk things over with Kylie.  I should know better by now but I guess I just keep wanting things to be better between you and your daughter.  Being afraid you will say the wrong thing when with your girls would be torture and I can't even imagine it.
I hope and pray you and Robert will have a fabulous Christmas trip and enjoy every minute of it together.

Once I felt exactly as you do Linda, we would always be all together having BBQs and holidays. I know I haven't changed, nor has Belinda as she has always lived in her own world and I accepted that a long time ago. It used to drive me mad, but she is who she is and I would never expect her to change as I am sure she doesn't expect me to change either. Somehow Kylie has changed, or rather I have seen what everyone else has seen for many years and it's not very nice. Kylie honestly believes she has done nothing wrong and is playing the martyr, as if it's everyone else's fault and not her own.
It's Alex's birthday, and Keith's, later this month. Sammi is giving Alex a party and combining Keith's birthday as well, at a place locally, she sent the invites out on Friday via messenger and I noticed the Browns aren't invited. Alex and Sammi hate the way she has treated me and they don't really like her. These things happen in a family, I just never thought it would be mine. It is what it is, so please don't worry about it at all Linda, I have learnt to adjust my life and I rather like not having to walk on eggshells all the time

I'm so glad that Belinda's family is in your corner and supporting YOU, that's wonderful.  You and Robert can go to the birthday party and not have to worry about Kylie spoiling it for you.  AND you two can have a wonderful Christmas with no hassle, just a special time together.
((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Darien and Robert)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

THIS REMINDS ME...........when I'm wide awake in the middle of the night I sometimes look at FB on my phone.  Night before last I saw a post of Kylie's thanking people for making Emma's graduation special.  She thanked her "daughter-in-law".........is Liam married?  Who is Bubba?

GO Moira, it gives you a chance to see Frank again and you would certainly warm this cold bones of yours

I had to go and have a look and see which post you were talking about!! Bubba is Arlie and she just calls Chloe her daughter-in-law, they certainly aren't married.

OH, Bubba is Arlie, I get it.  I was just very puzzled about her daughter-in-law.  I thought I'd really lost it, Liam got married and I didn't remember?

I was so busy thinking about Kylie's daughter-in-law that I forgot about you going to Perth.  I suppose it would be just you and John going and not the rest of the family.   It would be nice to be with Annie, but you would have to fly and I know you don't want to do that.  I wonder what you will decide?

Robert and I hope Chloe doesn't stay with Liam, she is too good for him we believe. Chloe is a very smart girl, she is warm and loving. Liam is lazy and very selfish, don't get me wrong, I love Liam, but I don't like who he has become.

I know flying is a big problem for you, but you have been brave enough before and I have faith that you can do it again
