I think the funny faces are working for me.  I'll try it and see.
Well, I can't SEE a face but I see the normal words/numbers so it works for me...........IF this is the funny face you mean.

I knew there was a 'mark read' somewhere!! Yes it does get rid of the flags though. We will work it all out eventually.
Hmmmmmm, the font size etc doesn't seem to do anything, nor the bold or colour!!!

I saw the Mark Read and clicked on it and lost the NEW flags for the Unread posts. !!!
I also tried to put some of my words in BOLD and clicked on the B for bold  ... for emphasis ... but all I get is this  !!!!!            OR  ...if I want to make the words bigger !

On the first page, if you only want to go to the last read post, along the line of that post it will tell you who last posted and the time, just next to that is a small 'icon' that looks like a page, click on that and it will take you to the last message made under that particular topic.

I tried clicking on 'NEXT' on the bottom, right corner but it seemed to go backwards !

Me too..............I was on call too!    I imagine that is true for any grandparents who live around their grandchildren.  However, I know lots of people who go South for the winter and basically just disappear so they aren't as reliable as we were and still are, even Darien and I with our older grandchildren.
We will get  used to the changes here on this board.  It will probably take me longer since I'm OLD!

I too was on call for emergencies for my grandkids.

Yes, that's a major difference on this board, the posts are general rather than done under the person who posted. I suppose we will just have to get used to it

I agree Linda, we have to answer the posts altogether !!!
I see what you mean about pre school and kindy etc etc. My kids only went to kindy / play school in NZ and it was free.  I am on call here to pick up the kids in case of emergency :)
Darien it was you who convinced me... before Jack was even born, that it is great to be a Granny  xx

It's the same as here, we have Preschool but the parents or someone has to pay for the child to go there.  This is different than daycare where the parents pay to leave their child all day.  Our preschool is half a day.  Our daycare places don't teach them anything, oh they might a little, but it's not a structured learning place.  Breck went to preschool when she was 3 and 4 and while she did that she was at daycare also because her parents weren't home.   Someone had to transport Breck from daycare to preschool.  I think that Brant and another parent took turns doing that.  Luckily Brant can schedule his work so he can be away throughout the day if needs be.  Joe also does lots of this transporting with all 3 kids who are involved in various activities
I guess your three little kids are all different in one way or the other which is normal and the way it is in most families.
Okay, I've answered Moira's post and there is also your post Darien.  That's a difference from the old board where each person's comments were in separate posts.  Well anyway, I have only ONE grandchild to watch but she is a blessing for sure.

I love how our grandchildren develop personalities and all are similar but very different. I used to love sitting and watch them all interact with each other in their growing years, now I sit back and watch them all as mature adults making their own place in the world. Being a grandmother is a wonderful gift we have been given

No, we don't have Pre-school where your child HAS to attend.  But if you pay you can send your child to Kindy or play school  ( call it pre-school )  ....... BUT you have to pay.  Parents use it if they work normally. Cash started Montessori Kindy when they first moved here.  Montessori is a bit more High Class than normal Kindy   ;D BUT you do pay more ! Maybe Cash did not have a full 3 years Montessori but close. Greta is now 2years old  and goes 2 days a week 9-3.
I think Cash is catching up to Jack in his own way but Cash is going to be a worker .. not so much a thinker although he is getting bossy !  :-\  As for Greta.... she reminds us of Anneliese. Quick, talkative ( I cannot understand all she says but she knows what she is talking about  ) and all action.

Jack is in the same grade as Breck.   Why was Cash in Kindergarten for 3 years?  Maybe you don't have preschool?   Is Cash going to be as smart a cookie as Jack??    I know he has a different personality and I think Greta is more like Cash than Jack or is she?

This is Jack's 2nd year in school.   He did 1 year in Kindergarten.... aged 4 here in Helensville,  but did 1 year part time in Perth before that.  Real School here starts on your 5th birthday  but Jack's was during the Christmas holidays so he started January 2018. It will be the same with Cash who is 5 on 15th December.  He will start real school next January .. 2020. Cash has had 3 years of Kindergarten !
In UK we start school in September like you do. Northern hemisphere.

Yes Darien NZ does have the highest rate of skin cancer due to the depleted ozone layer over the islands !  I will take some garden photos tomorrow IF it does not continue raining !!!!

OH, it did show up as a face!!

OIC now about the hat!!  Our school business is different.  If a child is 5 by September 15th then they can start school so Breck is old for her class because her birthday is November 8th.  So are she and Jack in the same grade?  Breck is in lst grade which is the next grade after Kindergarten here.
This is Breck's second year of "real" school.  She went to preschool two years before "real" school.   Okay, I tried the emoticons, the "bunch" of them but it doesn't show up here, just says (emoji3) so we shall see if it shows up as a face after I post this.

I have heard that NZ has the highest risk for Skin Cancers too.
I would love to see some new photos of your garden's growth

Jack's sun hat was too big so he had obviously picked up some other boy's hat !!! It was over his eyes !!!  The sun is very decieving in NZ and you do get burned very quickly.   But then it poured down!!!!!! Jack is young in the class because his birthday is in December 18th.  They start school here in January when they are 5 years old. So he was only JUST 5.
My garden is doing well and the corn is as high as an elephants eye......... well it is Cash's corn and I had to trim the pineapple sage and the Lemon Balm is just going mad ! I need a bigger garden !

I looked at FB first before I came here and I wondered what exactly was going on but now I see.  I didn't realize that Jack is the youngest in his class.  He's one of the top students though so being young hasn't hurt him at all.  I can't get the emoticons to work, I mean the big bunch of them, not the row at the top here.  Can you girls?

Well done Jack, he must be very pleased with himself Who's hat was he wearing?
You have had so much rain over there, but I bet your beautiful garden loves it.

The 5/6/7 year olds had their athletics at school this morning. Jack did well and came 3rd in the sprint, he is the shortest and the youngest of his class :)  He also won the discus.. throwing a plastic hoop thing  :) His long jump and high jump were rubbish as he would not take off his school sun hat and it was too big and kept falling off.   Bonnie said it was NOT his hat !!! The sprints were at 11:30 am and the skies opened up and we all got drenched.  Absolutely soaked and the rain drops were so BIG.  Had to drive back here soaking wet !
