No I haven't actually looked for them myself, but did a quick search. You can get plenty of other stuff over the counter though, Gaviscon, Mylanta, Quickeze etc.

I especially looked today in Countdown and they are still on the shelves for sale. ! I don't have any now, I have Quickeze.
Rennies are similar but more old fashioned !  " Rennie® Peppermint tablets contain two naturally-occurring antacids called calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate which neutralise excess stomach acid by turning it into water & other natural substances. Calcium carbonate acts directly in the oesophagus, as well as the stomach, and both antacids are then eliminated by your body"
I see John brought some Rennies back from Australia so maybe he could not find Zantac.
I will ask next time I am in Countdown. I think Countdown is a subsidy of Woolworths.  Have you looked in Woolies Darien ?

Maybe your government is slow to issue this warning and remove the drug from the shelves?  I'm not surprised you don't see it anymore Darien.  It's good you are doing better Moira but not sure you should be taking this drug.  What are Rennies?

I was just looking it up and seeing if we sold it under another name, but apparently Zantac has been taken from our shelves too, in September 2019.

I do remember reading this a while ago too but they are still being sold here. I take Pantoprazole 40mg  now and they do seem to be helping as I have not had bad burps and acid reflux recently. I looked at what they contain:  The other ingredients are mannitol, crospovidone (type B), anhydrous sodium carbonate, sorbitol (E420), calcium stearate in the tablet core and hypromellose, povidone (K25), titanium dioxide (E171), yellow iron oxide (E172), propylene glycol, methacrylic acid - ethyl acrylate copolymer, sodium laurilsulfate, polysorbate 80, macrogol 6000 and talc in the film-coating.
Hahaha Need to be a scientist at least to understand all this lot !

My Mum always used Rennies for years and years. She always had some handy !

I have never heard anything against it, but then I don't read the news a lot either. My mum used to use Mylanta.

Australian and New Zealand laws are even more strict that yours Linda, so I am sure they must be ok.

I might be wrong about this.  I know they pulled some off the shelves here but it might just have been a batch that was contaminated in some way.  I don't have time now but I'll look later.

You aren't going to take it, are you?

I DID buy it... I looked in my top cupboard where I keep any medicine type things and there was a packet of Gaviscon.  I must have bought it a few weeks ago as I did not know it was there. I have to use the little 2 step ladder to get up there so I don't look up there very often !  I had a clear out !

Ranitidine can no longer be purchased here, it is banned because it can cause cancer I guess?  I forget the reason.  I doubt you can buy it there either.  This is just a very recent thing.
The Pepcid works best for Larry.

Thank you.  I have written down all the information and I will go to the Warehouse Pharmacy maybe Tuesday or Wednesday and I will ask them about it.   It does say ' Other H2 blockers are cimetidine (Tagamet), ranitidine (Zantac),'    I do take Zantac sometimes.
I have to say I would NEVER pay $54.81 for a month's supply of these !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That is a crazy price.

Oh my GOODNESS..............I just looked again and noticed the PRICE..............they are so expensive, WOW!!!    Larry does buy the generic and maybe you could do that.  At least we know this drug is available in New Zealand.  I'm sure our Pepcid isn't that expensive.

I get caught by people and their life stories all the time.

I am sure you know what I am talking about Darien :) and it is a worry when my indigestion is bad BUT I have had problems for years with reflux. Still …. :(
I was talking to a Scottish 73 year old outside The Warehouse today . She was messing with her empty trolley and I said I would take it and she got chatting how she had had 3 strokes and needed the trolley to get around the shops. I got her life story.... I thought I was bad for yapping to strangers but she was worse  :) She did look older than me so I thought ….. but she said she felt young.

Oh how sad for that poor woman, so quickly too

I do know what you mean, Moira, as sometimes when I get bad indigestion I have to stop myself from panicking and just wait for a bit.

I have heard of Pepcid and I am pretty sure we have an equivalent here, don't know about in NZ, but they no doubt do. Don't forget to ask when you go to the hospital on Monday!!!!

Larry's pill is Famotidine, a store brand so it's cheaper than the name brand.  The name brand is Pepcid.  It works so fast for him, it's almost unbelievable.  Even I understand your fear Moira, from living with a person with heart disease..........I GEDDIT.   Melanoma is a terrible kind of cancer and Joe had the most deadly form of it, nodular.  They got it all out 4 years ago but it could always sneak back.  He has very frequent full body scans.  So sad about the woman who lost her young son from it.

It is a bit of a worry but most of the time I tell myself it is indigestion but but but ........  I Am sure you understand Darien and Larry too !  What pill does Larry take Linda ?
There is a specialist skin cancer place in Silverdale apparently,  I have noticed it ..... or you just have your GP check ... useless in my opinion.  Yes I forgot to ask Trinh, not that she would have had time to do it yesterday anyway !  I used to see a specialist skin cancer doctor in Perth.  I will look into it.

I was talking to a woman at the over 60s this morning,  she had a son and grandkids in UK . I thought she looked about my age but she was 83 !!!!!! She was telling me how she lost one son aged 37.  He had a melanoma on his leg, had the melanoma removed and all was well for 4 years then he was getting headaches and it was found that the cancer from the melanoma had gone to his brain, he died within 4 months.  Very sad.

Larry gets indigestion like that and we have taken him to the ER about 3 times to be checked out because we thought it was his heart and it wasn't.  He has a pill now that he takes, not all the time, but when he feels like he needs it.  It sounds very much like yours.  I hope this will help you.

((((((((((Moira)))))))))) Yes, you can think of your heart when you get bad indigestion pain, I hear you about that. Did you get your skin checked> I take it you didn't or you would have mentioned it.

I agree Linda, Darien would have her glasses put away all neat and tidy ! But no Hot stuff story.... just a hot body snoring !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the GP today and she has given me some Pantoprazole.
It is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems (such as acid reflux). It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. This medication relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. It helps heal acid damage to the stomach and esophagus, helps prevent ulcers.
I have been on them or similar, a few years ago but came off when I had my thyroid done.  When I get indigestion like that nowadays,  I always thing HEART !!!  Trinh, the GP told me to ring the ambulance if I was worried !

Right Darien, we thought we were going to get a really GOOD Hot Stuff story, what a disappointment!    Sorry you had indigestion so bad that you couldn't sleep.  Was it better when you got up?  Can't you take something to make it go away??  ((((((((((Moira)))))))))   I don't think we have a hugging emoticon so we will have to go back to making our own hugs.   I could have guessed that Darien's glasses would all be put away where they belong.  Mine are out in the open but very neatly placed just where I need them!

The only glasses I have are the ones I get from supersavers and when they are not in use they are in their proper containers in their allotted places
What gave you indigestion, Moira? Perhaps you should have that checked out? Have you had your appointment to have your skin checked yet?
Linda and I were thinking you were going to tell us about John being your bit of 'Hot Stuff'
Title: Re: Living with a snorer etc !
Post by: Moira on December 03, 2019, 08:17:33 pm
Haha I sleep with some hot stuff because he always gets hot and chucks off the duvet !!! I make up posts to you in my mind  when I cannot sleep.  ::)
I too have those cheap reading glasses, about 6 pairs but they are mostly in the drawer or in the car and some of them are such pretty colours I would quite like them with my reading lenses in them !!
No Darien I did not really sleep better last night either as I had indigestion .... John slept all night and snores fairly quietly.
As for having to raise my voice when talking to John, it has got boring already. I don't think he even listens then gets the wrong story anyway ! He had his ears tested and he was borderline but OK for the time being ! I have my doubts !

We probably COULD have lived without hearing about the WIND in New Zealand last night!    I know Moira likes to give us the scoop!!!
You were laughing in bed about the thought of telling us you sleep with some Hot Stuff?  ARE you telling us that?  DID YOU???   Did you have your hot water bottle in bed?    I have reading glasses all around the house.  I buy them at the Dollar Tree where everything is a dollar.  It's handy to have lots of glasses and they are fine and cheap too.  Larry just has the glasses he wears all the time so any other glasses I know are mine.

Oh my, that was just a little TMI!!!! None the less, I hope you slept better last night.
I hear you about having to shout, I get heartily sick of it and Robert tells me to be patient as its difficult for him I remind him it's fixable!!!!
