Yes, when we bought this house, the girls had to share after having had a room of their own for a few years. They weren't too happy about it, but we did intend on adding another room on. Belinda left home though, about 18 months after we moved here, so we never added the extra room.

I guess "they" would have to carry us out of our houses by force then Darien. 
So your girls must have shared a bedroom when they were at home.  Tom and Tim shared a room for awhile but then Tom decided to have his room up here so then they each had their own room.  They were really pretty far apart in age to share a room very long.

I only have a two bedroom, one bathroom home myself, it's all we need. The second bedroom has been made into an office now so second bed is available here anymore, any guests would have to find their own accommodation, unless they were special and in that case, the office would be returned as second bedroom

I too have no intention of moving from here, I would have to be forced into it!!!!

Yes, the deck steps go down to our garage or back yard.  I forgot to mention the door under the deck, that's the door we go in and out of 99% of the time.  It leads in just a few steps to our garage.
Where would we go if we move?  Most people our age have some kind of plan but we don't.  I don't ever want to leave my house and Larry isn't ready to live in any kind of a facility.  I guess if we couldn't do the steps we'd  probably move to a condo or maybe an assisted living place and if we were helpless we'd go to a nursing home.  We've never toured any  of these places here in town so don't know what they would cost, but they are all pricey.  We would sell our house, no point in keeping it if we can't live in it.  That would be a very sad day.

I was just thinking ahead for you as it has  been ... almost 36 years since we lived in a house with an upstairs and downstairs or stairs of any kid !!!!  I could also bring my duvet as I would also bring my own pillows !
I think we have seen a photo of your steps to the outside deck.. those steps lead down into your garden right... and your garage ?  IF you did have to move where would you go to and would you have to sell your house ?

There would be plenty of room for you to stay but I don't have the right bedding for you. 
We have a door upstairs that leads out to our deck but you have a lot of steps to go up or down there.  If you go out our front door you go up or down 7 steps so if we were incapacitated we would not live here.
We could downsize and live in a smaller house or apartment if we needed to.  In the meantime we are here and have room for Tom and Mary when they come.  We could have a 2 bedroom apartment and would still have room for company.
Our kitchen is upstairs.  We lived just in the upstairs for 12 years, we had living room, kitchen, bathroom, and two bedrooms during that time.

I know we have discussed your house before and the workings of it, but I can't remember where your kitchen is. I think it is upstairs though, isn't it?

SO if you get so old or incapacitated that you cannot use stairs .... like Susie for example,  will you sleep upstairs only and not use downstairs ? Can you do that ? Or is your door to the outside down the stairs ??  Just thinking ahead     I doubt you would manage in a minor dwelling !

Well, we have never used it as a 5 bedroom house.  When we first lived here we had just 2 bedrooms, then we finished the lower level and there are 3 bedrooms there.  At that time we all moved downstairs to sleep and the two rooms up here were no longer bedrooms.  BUT, if someone with a bunch of kids bought our house they would actually have 5 rooms with bedroom type closets.

Compared to many, our house isn't that big but we do have a lot of closets and we do have clothes, shoes, coats, etc..  When we first moved into the house, only the upstairs was finished so we lived upstairs with two bedrooms.  Then in time we had the lower level finished with 3 more bedrooms and each of these 5 bedrooms had a good sized closet.  Now we only use the downstairs bedrooms and the ones up here are this computer room where I am and a TV room which is like a mini living room.  No, we haven't moved since 1967 when we moved into this house.

Help, you must have a BIG House Linda :) You obviously do not move around so much either

Here in our Minor dwelling / Granny flat, we have a little wardrobe in Matt's room  and in that hangs maybe 10 things on coat hangers ! Matt's ironed work shirts .... John's suit and my jacket !!!!!!!! Both John and I Have a 5 drawer dresser beside our beds and that holds folded tee shirts, shorts and jumpers .. plus undies and sleep stuff !!!!! End of story !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen the photo of your build in wardrobe Darien, nice and big and we have had similar in many houses but in Perth we had posh Walk IN wardrobe and believe me, we filled it !

I can see that not having 4 seasons makes a difference in how many clothes, coats, etc. that you have.  Our closets are full.  We have a dresser and chest of drawers in our room where we keep the things that we don't need to hang.

We have a large built in wardrobe in our room that has all our clothes init, Robert's one side, mine the other. We also have a set of drawers each for things we don't need to hang. We have two warm jackets each that we wear in the UK, but not here as it doesn't really get cold enough. We don't really need seasonal clothes, as like Moira, we only really have two seasons and our winters are not that cold. At least I don't think they are.

I can see that you and John have way fewer clothes than Larry and I have.  We have a bigger closet in our bedroom, not a walk-in closet but bigger than normal and Larry and I have one season's clothes hanging in it, his on one side and mine on the other.  We have closets in the other two bedrooms downstairs and in one I have my off-season clothes and in the other Larry has his.  Also upstairs here we have a coat closet where I have my coats and downstairs in a small closet Larry has his coats.   Oh yes, I have my dress up clothes up here in another closet, better things I wear to church or whatever.  We don't dress up for church like we used to but still I have some better things for Sunday.

John arrived here from Perth with ONE BIG  suitcase and a back pack ! What he cannot fit in ... I will toss out !!!!!!!!!!!    I can fit my clothes also in ONE big suitcase although I do also have a spare :)
 Its Mainly Summer or Winter type weather here .... in Auckland anyway !    I  think it may be a bit cooler South in Taranaki !   Maybe even 4 seasons      SO I can always buy another jumper and I might even get to wear my Winter jacket !!!!   It is a padded jacket, I bought it here 4 years ago  and I have only worn it once at a rugby match !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never needed it since !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We actually do not have a lot of clothes ! I tend to wear shorts, pants and tee shirts and when they get dirty or paint on them or dinner or anything else I dump them ! John DOES have a posh Suit !  Hanging in the wardrobe  gathering dust !!!!!  I do have one or two posh blouses and proper trousers for wedding or whatever !!! End of story

I think Moira was using a figure of speech there, as I am sure John has more that one suitcase of clothes, or does he? I know Robert does as do I!!!!! Surely John won't just throw all his 'stuff' in the container?? Hopefully that too is a figure of speech

"A suitcase".  You could get all of John's clothes into one suitcase?  Larry and I have way more clothes than that.  We do have to have clothes for all 4 seasons though so maybe that makes a difference.

I doubt John will actually pack his stuff but will chuck it all into the container !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will pack his clothes into a suitcase as usual !
He can take the bags of books to the Op Shop :)

I will get my own stuff together and he can do his own too..... I have been nagging a bit about all his books here in the bookcases and I cleared mine today and most ended up in a bag for the Op / Charity shop as they are all in good condition.  I see John has been putting his into a bag too !!!!! WOW ...  but most of his are 3rd hand OP shop books anyway !!!!

John sounds more like Robert and IF it is John's idea... no problem !  I chose and buy all the big things for the house anyway, furniture, beds, cooker etc etc. Joint money ! John collects tools and  stuff and the car and his own clothes. NOW he will have to get rid of so much stuff !!!!!!! You may well hear him cursing over the oceans !!!!!!!!

I'm glad Robert likes it too, that's great.  Larry grumbles about small amounts of money being spent foolishly but he doesn't think a thing of buying a new car, big tickets items he's fine with.  He fusses over the price of a movie ticket, and they are ridiculous, but he will buy a big item and not worry about it.

I love the new mattress and even Robert does too, even if he does say so very reluctantly, he didn't want to buy one as he knew it would be expensive!! He really doesn't like to part with money if it isn't his idea He will spend money on holidays or me, but if it comes to practical things he grumbles.

Wonderful that your new mattress is good for your back Darien and that is what I said about our good one !! MY back has not been any bother for ages..... ! Not sleep wise anyway ! 

Today I stripped the bed and sprayed Eucalyptus spray all over everything just in case and I aired the bed :) I will sleep well tonight :0

No humidity here now either and it was cooler today but we do need some rain ! NOT a lot but I am fed up watering !!!!!

The awful humidity seems to have gone for now and we are finally in for a few days of sun before we get more rain. I am going to wash everything I can before it rains again I slept a bit better last night as it wasn't so hot.

I love my new mattress and I don't wake up with a sore back anymore either

Well my sense of smell is not the best but I liked it :)  It is cooler tonight and I will not slather myself in herbal smelling oils :)

I don't think I'd have liked the smell either but I really HATE itching so I'd probably just have suffered through the smell.

Hahaha no bites last night but the smell of my cedarwood and rosemary oil was annoying John.  Hahahahaha Tough I said BUT NO Bites :)

You can get an automatic mosquito repellent that you can pug into an electric outlet, that might work in the interim.

I will wait and see if you have elaborated on the very cryptic comment!!!!!

I actualleh do not think it is Fleas but the F was a good FIT  !!!!!!
John sprayed the bedroom well before we went to bed last night and the door was not open very wide overnight and NO bites !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Phew ! John was also bitten that same night as me !!!
 
I used a concoction of my oils... Cedar Wood and Rosemary on my arms and legs last night  and YES I WILL have screens on the next place in Waverley! 

And that is another new story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness!!!!!!! Make sure you put plenty of that anti-itch stuff on or a nice soothing aloe vera lotion. Definitely make sure you have screens put on your new place to prevent this from happening again!!!! Is any one else scratching from fleas?

NO NOT what you are thinking as IF I would ever use THAT FOUL  word....     

I got bitten last night  1. On my FOREHEAD .. and it is swollen, above my left eye  !! 2. On my FOREARM  and it is driving me mad today still !!  3. On my FINGER ... my little finger on my right hand and all up the side  ! 4. On my FEMUR ..well a bit lower down by my knee  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bloody Mossies or is it FLEAS ?????????????????????????

I thought up this post about 5am this morning when I cold not sleep
