I'm having a bad day, just wanted to let you know so you won't wonder. I feel like I've been run over by a truck. I'll catch up when I can!!
-
Oh my dear friend, I hope after some rest, you will feel a little better. Much love to you ((((((((((((((((((((Linda))))))))))))))))))))
-
I am so sorry to read this and I sincerely hope it all gets better soon. I hope Larry is looking after you and keeping you fed and watered. (((((((((((((((((((((((((Linda)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
-
I survived the day and night, I felt so awful, I laid on the sofa but I didn't really sleep, I just hurt all over. I made myself drink the water I'm supposed to drink because I know it flushes crap out so I did that and I ate a little lunch and supper. I slept good and long last night and now today I'm doing better. We went to the cemetery awhile ago, it's Memorial weekend so we took flowers to Tim's grave. Larry went to the cemetery where his family is buried yesterday afternoon. I had thought I'd ride along but that didn't happen. I hope to go along to Oelwein on Monday to the cemetery there but will see how I am.
-
I am glad you are feeling a little better now and had a good sleep. I suppose the pain all over is a side effect of the chemo, do you know?
I hope it gave you some comfort to visit your Tim
-
Yes, it's the chemo side effects. They said fatigue is the number one side effect...............what I had yesterday is not what I would call fatigue, this was E X H A U S T I O N and then some! There was no way I could have done anything and if things were "normal" last night would have been the night Emma graduated. I would not have been able to go. I haven't had diarrhea except one time after this last infusion so that's different and good.
It's comforting to go to the cemetery, that seems weird but it is. It's been 15 years now since he was home for a visit. He left here on May 16, 2005.............it's a long time.
-
I do understand about your fatigue/exhaustion as that is a main side effect of Lupus as well. When I was bad with it, there were days when even lifting my head off the pillow was an effort and until you have suffered from it, it's so hard to explain the feeling. I worry about you Linda and I need for you to tell me how you are feeling, that way you aren't facing this by yourself ((((((((((((((((((((Linda))))))))))))))))))))
What will happen with Emma's graduation now?
-
I think I am bad when I feel tired but listening to you two and how you can suffer then I am NOT Tired at all !
I thought it was Memorial Weekend for you and I was thinking about Tim. 15 years is a long time
-
I do tell you how I am Darien and I'm telling you I don't feel so hot today. I am here though so it's not as bad as Friday. I'm so sorry you had such fatigue with Lupus and I'm glad you don't have it now, or do you sometimes. I'm hungry but my stomach isn't right, it's crampy and I had some diarrhea today. Moira, it's not a sleepy tired I'm complaining about, the kind where you just want to stay in bed and sleep, it's a bone weary painful tired and hard to explain. A couple people who have been through this are telling me that I need to do just ONE DAY AT A TIME and I know that's good advice. That's good advice for anything really.
Emma's school will have a virtual graduation. We just watched Matt's son Ian's virtual graduation in Phoenix the other night. It's certainly not the same but it's something. They don't even have a date yet for Emma's but I imagine it will be pretty soon.
-
Keep on telling us then Linda, don't feel that you are whingeing, you have a lot to whinge about The fatigue is deep inside you, like every part of your body is screaming to stay at rest, not necessarily sleep, but every thought or movement is a great effort, that's about right, isn't it Linda? I am hoping my thoughts and love will help you through all os this
No, a virtual graduation will not be the same, but none the less, it doesn't take away Emma's accomplishments
-
You describe that well Darien, that's about the size of it. The parents at Emma's school are still hoping that they might hold a REAL graduation later in the summer but I'll bet that doesn't happen. I think the virtual one will be what they have.
-
One day at a time, sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from You
Just give me the strength to do everyday.. what I have to do.
You have got me singing this song now Linda :) Are you talking to some people who have been through this ? I am sure it will be a help to you.
Seeing as we don't do Graduation so much here I am sure Emma will get over the loss of a ceremony ! It will be a different memory for her ((((((((((Emma))))))))))
-
It won't be the same for Emma, but it is what it is.
-
Thanks Moira, that's a great old hymn and it really applies to me these days. I do talk to several people who are on or have been on chemo. It helps because they kind of know the routine of it all.
All of these 2020 graduates will have a unique experience to tell their children and grandchildren one day. Did I mention before that these kids were born during the 9/11 time, that horrible experience and now these same kids are graduating during another unusual time. Of course the kids were too young to remember 9/11 but it seems strange that's the time period when they would all have been born. Emma missed her track season, 3 months of school, prom, graduation, trip to Florida with the orchestra and the trip to Europe with Stephanie. It's a bitter pill to swallow but one does learn through adversity.
-
Oh yes 9/11 and now the Virus. It will be something to tell their kids !!! Emma has missed a few good things all because of this stupid Virus. (((((((((((((((Emma)))))))))))))))
-
Yep she has and so have they all though not every senior had two big trips planned that were also cancelled.
-
Oh I didn't realise that they were also born about the 9/11 time, what a weird coincidence!! Poor ((((((((((Emma)))))))))) has certainly missed out on a lot, but I'll bet you are sort of secretly relieved that she won't be going to Europe, even though I have no doubt you would have wanted the experience for her :) I am sure she has managed her disappointment with aplomb
-
Emma isn't one to complain or really show her feelings. I don't think I have ever seen her angry in all these years. Sometimes I wonder how much she might have bottled up inside. I sure wouldn't want her to go to Europe at this time but I don't think I would have worried if not for the pandemic. I know Stephanie and Bill stay in the best places so I wouldn't worry about her safety.
-
Maybe the Europe trip will happen in time. That is as long as Stephanie and Bill have not lost $ millions during this virus and all its complications !
-
I agree, hopefully Emma will get her chance to see Europe at another time.
-
Maybe Stephanie and Bill will take their niece to Europe later this year or next and then I am sure they would invite Emma. We shall see.
-
I hope more like next year as Europe is just as bad as America is with the virus :(
-
That's true and those girls couldn't go this Fall anyway, they will be in school so if they go it would be a year from now. Nothing has been said about it at all, I was thinking it could happen.
I'm leaving now dear Darien, time to make something for supper. Have a wonderful day!!
-
I hope Emma gets the chance next year, she will love it.
Enjoy your supper, what are you having? I am taking Hugo back to the vet this morning as his ear is a dreadful mess and I don't see the specialist until 17th June and the poor boy can't remain as he is til then :(
-
I had some chicken frozen, I usually make more of almost everything and then I have enough for two meals. It's called Pineapple Chicken which of course it includes pineapple. We love it but you and Moira probably wouldn't. I also had some leftover scalloped potatoes and I microwaved some frozen peas and that was it. Larry cleaned up the mess. After I was done with the infusion today I noticed I had a metallic taste in my mouth. The doctor said many people get that and it causes things to not taste right and people lose their appetite. I hope it goes away and maybe tomorrow I won't have it.
-
Your supper sounds interesting, I don't believe I have ever had chicken and pineapple together.
I hope the metallic taste goes away for you too
-
I know pineapple and chicken sounds weird but we love it. The metallic taste DID go away and I'm so happy!
-
Hmm...I might try it myself one of theses day :) I am so relieved to hear the metallic taste has gone away, I hope it stays away for good :)
-
Good to hear your taste buds are better and no metallic taste. Lucky you ! Tonight Bonnie brought all 3 kids round plus a pizza for their tea as she and Dan had to go pick up the Monster truck from the garage. They were only away 15 minutes but she had just made pizza when Dan got home from work so they HAD to go THEN before the garage shut. Anyway the pizza was chicken and it had cashew nuts on top too !! I fed the kids, I only had a wee taste as we were having fish and chips later as it is Friday ..... but John had a piece and said it was delish. No pineapple.
-
I can't imagine cashews on pizza but then cashews on anything is delish. I've never heard of putting any kind of nut on a pizza. Do the kids like nuts, they must I guess. Lots of kids don't it seems. It's not Lent but you still have Fish and Chips on Friday?
-
I have never had nuts on a pizza either, but it would be nice :)
We always used to have fish every Friday, then they changed it to only Lent and Good Friday. Moira just continues it through habit I would think.
-
Yes, I think Moira has said that now that you mention the habit thing.
-
Fish and chips on Friday is a habit really, we did it at home as kids too because it was de rigueur back then !! Catholics and all that :) Nowadays it is a good excuse to not cook dinner ! AND the local fish and chip shop here in Helensville has fresh fish and it is delicious and clean !
I quite often put walnuts in salads.
-
Hmmmm.......de rigueur .......that's looks French but not sure what it means, unless it means necessary or customary or something like that.
If Emma was here I could ask her. So when you have Fish and Chips you aren't making it, you are getting it from a "fish place". Oh yes, I love nuts in salads but I've never had them on pizza.
-
de rigueur means it's in fashion, as in the height of fashion. I rarely cook on a Friday for the same reason, we always had fish and chips growing up every Friday.
-
OIC..............hadn't heard that French phrase before.
-
It means Customary, habit or fashionable ( more modern translation ) Linda :) Of course you may forget that I speak a bit of French. Well 5 years of it in the Convent :) and a bit in France and Morocco and listening to Scottish Moira who's Mother was French :0 ! Sometimes their phrases just pop out as they are more fitting than English !
Catholics do not have to do it now except for Fridays during Lent.. the 40 days leading up to Easter.
Its still a good excuse for not cooking and fresh fried fish and chips are yuuum with salt and vinegar on them :) I don't suppose you have fish and chip shops there Linda do you. ? Thinking back YES you do, at least there was one in New Jersey in 1972 when S. Moira and I were there as we tried to get a job in the shop .. because we were English we thought it was a good idea and a good selling point BUT we could not get a Work Visa !!!!!
-
We used to have a "fish" place on the East side of Waterloo, right in the heart of the ghetto, we never went there. There is Long John Silver's, a chain restaurant all over the country and we have one here. It's not fresh fish but it's good and I'm sure they do a good business during Lent.
Too bad you couldn't have worked at the fish place, you would have been good at it. So you couldn't work at all, or just certain places? I do remember you know French and I do know what Lent is, you must think I'm really SENILE!
-
We have a fish and chip shop up the road from me and Moira and Ange had some from there when we picked them up from the airport that time. It's not bad, but I think it depends on who is doing the cooking as sometimes it can be a bit oily and I hate that!!!
-
Your fish and chip shop was fine Darien, not as fine as the one Angie uses as they have VERY fresh fish straight from the sea and the fisherman's boat ! At the moment due to the virus they cannot send their fish to the market in Newcastle so they sell it locally !!!!!
We could not work at all in America Linda and we could only get a 3 month visitor visa as we did not have a lot of money ! If I remember we had GB Pounds 1000 each in travellers Cheques. It did last us for the 3 months as we had lots of friends to stay with all over the country and never had to stay in any hotels :) DO you buy fish and chips ever and do you use salt and vinegar on them Linda ?
-
OIC...........you didn't work at all and it's good you had the checks with you and lots of friends. How did you happen to have friends all over the USA? Did you meet them in the UK? Once in awhile we get Fish and Chips but no, I've never used salt and vinegar though it is sitting on the table............it doesn't sound good to me. It must be if you use it.
-
Robert like vinegar on his fish and chips, but I use lemon on my fish, like you Linda, it doesn't sound at all good to me!!
-
I just can't imagine the taste of vinegar on any of my food.
-
A little bit of vinegar on a salad is nice though :)
-
OMG You cannot eat fish and chips without Salt and Vinegar !!!!!!! Try it, you will not regret it ! I suppose if Robert likes it them it must be a British thing !
S Moira and I worked in Rota, close to an American Navel Base in Southern Spain near to Cadiz. Lots of Aussie, Kiwi and English girls got jobs there in the bars used by the Navy guys. We worked in a Decent bar..... Benny's Bar and Restaurant. Benny, (Benita) was the owner, she was Spanish married to an ex Naval guy Bill. My mate Celia (RIP) and her friend Lina from Zimbabwe plus Pat ( now in Wales and dying from oesophagus cancer :( all rented a house down the road from the bar. We got to meet loads of Americans and S. Moira's sister, Sheila married one and now lives in PA, plus another friend Sue married one and they loved in Florida ( sadly she also died of breast cancer in 2000 ) and anyway we got lots of addresses to visit ... so we did :) We went from New York to Florida and back up the East coast again then Washington and New England and up to Canada and back down through Niagara to Corry, Pennsylvania and then to New Jersey and back to New York and home ! Good trip and we never ever had to use any hotels etc. :)
-
You did meet a lot of people so I now see why you didn't have to spend your money on hotels. So you never saw the middle or western areas of the country. What year or years were you doing this? I know you have told me before but I don't know recall. I suppose I was here living in this very house while you were traveling around. We moved in here in October of 1967. Let's see, I was 28 so you were 18 so maybe you hadn't started your travels yet?
-
You really should get to it and write your adventures down, you had such an interesting life and it should be documented
-
Darien has even provided you with the instruments to start!
-
I thought I would push her along
-
Haha I have actually started ..... every so often I write more but I have to be in the mood.
When I was 18 Linda I left home and went to Scotland to work.... that was the beginning of my travels. From there I went to Newquay in the South of England to the Surfing capital of England with an Aussie chief life guard :) After that to Scotland again and Newquay then to Holland, Switzerland, Germany and Spain where I worked but travelled through Italy, Islands of Sardinia, Corfu, then Greece, Spain, North Africa and finally to America. I was thinking last night when I could not sleep ... that we did pay for accommodation in Montreal and Quebec :) We had friend in Toronto, Irish Angela but we were not impressed with Toronto or Montreal just big cities but Quebec was lovely:) We were in America July 30th to 29th October when we flew back to Glasgow. If I had known you bac then Linda we would have come to visit but we did not know anybody in the middle of America and we could not afford to go to the West coast.
-
WOW, I don't think you have ever told us about your travels in quite this way, where you list the countries and SO MANY countries. Was this 1967, I can't remember if you are 60 or 61 right now. If this is right, and it was 1967 you could have come and helped us move into this house, we did that on October 5, 1967.
You do need to write a book and I'm glad you have started it. Wish we had our little "writing emoticon". 📚✏
-
Moira is older than me and I am 64 now.
-
Well, I thought she was ten years younger than me and I'm 81. Hmmm....
-
Hahaha Linda.... it is the chemo talking ! You do know I am 71, yes 10 years younger than you and 8 years older than Darien Actually I think this was a typo on your behalf Linda so you are excused :D
I would have been 17 1/2 when I first left home so 1966 then we went to America in 1972 or was it 1971 ?????????????? Help !
-
It was the chemo talking, I subtracted wrong. You see what I mean.............chemo brain is setting in big time here. I see it all the time, not just here.
-
You would have gone to America in 1971 surely as you married John in 1973 :)
-
Hahaha yes Darien I realised that in bed last night !!!! I think your mistake was a typo Linda ::) ;D
-
No, it wasn't a typo, trust me I was trying to figure it out. Oh my, I've felt just HORRIBLE today. I just crawled out of my hole to check the email and see what you girls have written. If you were here in 1971 it was the year when Tom was born, June 12th.
-
Oh ((((((((((((((((((((Linda)))))))))))))))))))) I am so sorry you are feeling horrible. Please don't force yourself to come on here if you aren't up to it.
-
Oh no Darien, I don't feel obligated to be here, I want to be here and it's a treat for me to be able to come here. I feel more normal when I'm sitting here typing to you girls. I really didn't think I would be today but here I am.
-
Well it is lovely to see you have been here today Linda and I hope you feel a bit better tomorrow. Yes, I was in America in August to October 1971. Just think that was almost 39 years ago come August this year. So Tim would have been 39 earlier this year ? ((((((((((((((((Tim))))))))))))))))))
-
No, it was Tom who was born in 1971 which means he will be 49 the 12th of this month. During those months you were here in America was when Tom was a little VERY FUSSY baby, you could have helped me walk the floor if you had stopped by.
Tim's birthday was May 27th so he would now be 42, seems impossible to believe.
-
Hopefully being on here helps you
-
Yes it does!!!
-
I am glad to hear it
-
Sorry I misread your post as I thought I read Tim not Tom. I could have come help you with a sleepless Tom had I known you but in those days I had absolutely NO idea about babies and I was never having any anyway ! I would have been no help !
AND I put 39 instead of 49 .......... I was distracted because John was talking on the phone to his brother Walter's ex wife Kate ..... John has been trying to contact Walter (76) in England for a long time. Turns out Walter keeps losing his phones and Kate says he has been in hospital with kidney problems for a few weeks and is only now back in his flat with nurses coming in to help with his urine bag thingy !
-
Oh how sad, I hope John is able to contact his brother. Does Kate still have a lot to do with Walter, even though they are divorced?
-
I believe Kate does keep in contact as Walter has not been very well in the last couple of years.. and he drinks ! But according to S Moira, Kate has also been ill with rhumatism I think. Walter was married before and has a boy in Canada ( Bart is married and has 2 kids, he is an airline pilot like Walter used to be ! ) and his daughter Pippa who used to look after Walter but she has now moved to live in Spain.
Kate and Walter have 3 kids and I believe Liam, the son visits his dad and also the daughter .... cannot remember her name but she also visits !
-
This is all interesting and I recall that John had been trying to contact Walter. It sounds like he isn't in very good health. Evidently Kate does keep somewhat in contact with him. Is Walter the one who has or had the house in France, or somewhere? John thought about buying it, or did I dream that? It's nice that Walter has a couple kids around who can visit him, that's nice.
-
Oh yes Linda, I had forgotten about that place in France!!!! Is he the same brother Moira?
-
It seems like his name was Walter, but I'm not sure. Moira will come along and tell us!!
-
YES how clever you two are and your memories are good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spot on, I am impressed :o I told John NOT to spend his money on the house in France and their other younger brother, Desmond (60) decided not to share also ! So in the end Walter sold it ' as is ' but I do not think he lost too much money on it in the end and at least if it sold. Walter and Kate invested in property while Walter was still in the RAF flying and afterwards when he was teaching flying. They had to sell most of their investments in the end when they split up but Kate still lives in one house and Walter has a flat they own. Walter was always too big for his boots !!! He got a law degree after he left the RAF and never used it ...........like John !!! And now like Matt !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway Walter has been by himself for the last few years but he does not look after himself and since Pippa has been in Spain, it is left to Liam and ? to see to Walter. Kate and Walter do have another son Dominic, who I believe had disowned them all, I do not know why !
-
Hmmmm........I think this Walter story could be a good book too. I suppose Liam isn't as attentive as Pippa, the daughters seem to do better at that sort of thing. At least both Kate and Walter have a place to live thanks to their investments. I hadn't thought about the law degree thing. I thought maybe Matt might go back to it but I think it was probably too stressful for him so he's much better off where he is now. Does he seem okay now Moira? (((((((((((((((Matt))))))))))))))) I should know this, but I can't remember? Does he still have his house or did he sell it? It seems like he might have sold it.
-
Law degrees seem to run in your family Moira, such a waste of brain knowledge and years of hard slog!!!
-
I agree Darien .. hard slog and to what end ?????????? I think Walter did work for a legal mate for a short time in Newcastle. John also did some work for his legal Kiwi mate in Perth .. as did Matt while training.
Matt is fine up in the gold mine and although he has not been able to fly home for the last .... 2 months ? he goes to Broome for a week after working 2 weeks. According to Annie.......... Matt was away North of Broome with a "friend" last week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is either the local teacher or the nurse !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His house is being looked after by Mary's Mum Karen and I believe Richie her son has got a job. In a week or two Annie is moving into Matt's house and letting Nikau live in her house and pay less rent than he pays now and he will look after ' their ' jointly owned dog Reggie ! Annie is fed up with it !
-
Oh, this is all so interesting, Matt has a "friend"! I wonder if you will ever get any more information. I'm glad he is doing better with the job at the mine, that's great. So Matt is never in his house, am I correct about that? Nikau is still around and now moving into Annie's house. I remember Reggie was a lot to deal with so I can see why Annie is tired of the job. Thanks for the updates Moira!
-
That will solve Matt's problem then with Annie being in the house. So Nikau will look after Annie's house and Reggie, good job all round then. Interesting about Matt's 'friend', I wonder if it will go beyond 'friendship'?
-
John rings Matt from here as he has an Aussie phone and counts as a local call to Matt but Matt never tells John anything. Annie gets more information out of Matt so we rely on her for any news :0
At the moment Karen is looking after the house as the two dogs are there and they need feeding and walking ! Matt has not been able to fly from the gold mine back to Perth for the last few weeks due to the Virus... no planes ! Maybe they will start flying to Perth again shortly !
-
I guess all planes aren't flying everywhere. I think ours are here but I'm not absolutely sure of that either. I do know there aren't nearly as many passengers as there were before. I'm so GLAD we took our cruise last summer, I couldn't have done it health wise and probably there It's good you have a way to keep in touch with Matt that doesn't cost a lot. Annie gives you Matt's details, it's probably normal that a brother would tell a sister more than he would a parent. Maybe Matt can get home sometime soon!
-
Our domestic flights are now slowly opening up, so Matt should be able to fly home again now, surely? Does Karen live in Matt's house? Remind me again who Karen is please :)
-
I didn't know about Karen either though she just told us yesterday about someone living there. I think she thought we knew who Karen is, but I don't either.
-
Oh no doubt Moira has told us, but I can't remember and neither can you :)
-
I know, I can't even come up with any possibilities.
-
YES I did tell you about Karen staying in Matt's House. I told you how Mary's brother Richie was coming from Melbourne and sleeping in the same room as Mary's kids in Perth..... when Matt got stuck up in the gold mine area he needed someone to look after the house & dogs so Richie moved in. Then Mary/Richie's mum Karen was back from her catering job in the mines and unable to get back because of the virus so she also moved into Matt's house to help. It was better than also staying at Mary's house with the kids aged 4 & 6 and miserable Lindsay ( Mary's partner) Karen has spring cleaned the house and contents and Annie says it is perfect now ! Karen is nice, we have known them since we were in Marton. Karen and husband Richard were running a pub/ hotel in Nelson ( top of the South Island) for a few years but Richard got a bit carried away with the drink and women so in the end Karen got sick of it all and walked out and went to Perth to Mary's house.
Does that story ring any bells ?
-
HELP.............well, it's kind of familiar, I remember someone moving into Matt's house but didn't remember the name. If you read over what you wrote you will see it's pretty complicated for an old person with chemo brain! Thanks for going through all of that for us again.
It's great that Karen has cleaned up the house so much that it's perfect. Now let me see here, Annie is moving into Matt's house but she won't be living there alone because the others are still there too, is that right?
-
Ah yes, I remember now, thank you for explaining it all again Moira :) Will Matt be able to come home again anytime soon? What will happen when Karen can go back to the mines? Or is that when Annie is going to move in? What does Richie do?
-
Hahaha too many questions :)
Annie will move into Matt's house in maybe a week or so when Karen can go back to her fly in fly out job. Matt's house has 2 lounges and has 3 bedrooms so Annie will have one bedroom and she is quite happy for Karen to stay when on her week off work. Matt will keep his own bedroom and office as he will be allowed to fly back every 2 weeks after the end of June :) Matt does not mind Annie being there when he is there either and nor will he bother if Karen is there either because Karen loves to cook and clean !! AS for Karen's son Richie, he got a job in Perth but packed it in because he did not like the boss ! I talked to Matt tonight when he rung and he said he had got Richie a mining job with ? did not catch the name but apparently I know who he is !!! Matt talks too fast and half the time I miss what he is saying and NO I am not deaf !!!! :o
SO Nikau will pay Annie's mortgage in rent ... almost :) Then Annie will help with Matt's payments as rent and she will take rent off Karen and Richie if they stay !
-
I had to laugh when I read Darien's post last night, it sounded like me, all those questions! You did good Darien, I wanted to know all that stuff too and wasn't it interesting, good job Moira you filled us in so well! It really sounds like an ideal situation for all of them and I hope it works well.
-
I know there was a lot of questions, but I needed to know It sounds like a good arrangement all round then. I know what you mean about Matt talking fast, they all seem to these days and I am always saying "Pardon?" !!!!
-
It sounds to me to be a good idea all round as Matt is not good at bill paying ! Not always due to lack of money but because he does not attend to his mail ! As for him speaking fast.... I cannot keep up so I rarely speak to him on the phone as I am always saying WHAT ? Not Pardon ..........just WHAT !
-
Someone who speaks too fast is disaster for people who can't hear, like me and even with hearing aids it's hard to understand. Lots of times I have to tell people on the phone that I can't hear them, so they speak up for a minute or two and then forget.
-
Even for people who don't need hearing aids and have 100% hearing, talking fast and mumbling into the bargain is hopeless to try and hear what they are saying!!!!
-
Oh yes, talking fast is not good. I was lying on the sofa this afternoon taking a rest when the phone rang. I had taken my hearing aid out because it hurts to lay on it and I was on my right side. When I answered the phone I didn't have it in but thought maybe I could hear, but no I couldn't. I didn't know what the woman was saying so I asked her to wait just a minute. I put the hearing aid in and asked her what she had said. She said it was Winnifred and acted like I should know her. I said "Winnifred"? and she said "John Becker's sister", this was definitely ringing NO BELLS. I told her she must have the wrong number since I didn't know Winnifred or John Becker. She was SORRY but by then I was wide awake and the end of my nap.
-
My hearing is also 100% I think and when the TV is one and some people are speaking .... especially if they have an accent be it English or American ........or even Kiwi :D ... they often speak too fast and I cannot understand what they are saying !
Shame you had your nana nap disturbed by a wrong number !! I hope you sleep tonight :)
-
Oh how frustrating, being woken up by someone who didn't even have the house to call the right number! Shame that was the end of your nana nap :( Hearing does become hard as we age, but it certainly doesn't help that people just don't enunciate words correctly anymore.
-
I slept long and hard last night and it felt really good. I think it takes me awhile to catch up after my sleepless Wednesday night. I hadn't had a wrong number for a long time.
-
I am glad you slept so well ((((((((((Linda))))))))))
-
Same Linda and I hope you feel better for a few more days !
-
I'm doing well today and I am THANKFUL!
-
Long may it continue
-
Thank you Darien. I know that by and large the last treatment hit me less hard than the one before and you have to wonder why. They are exactly the same but I'm just glad it's not as bad this time. Friday was not good but not as bad as the previous Friday. Who knows?
-
Well all I can say is again, long may it last my dearest friend
-
Wonderful news. Maybe you are getting acclimatised to the meds Linda You never know ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Linda)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
-
I don't know but I'm glad for any good days that I have. I'm doing fine today. I just talked to Mary and she sounded good and seems to be doing better. Her eyes are greatly improved and that's such a relief. She's doing cardiac rehab now and she thinks that could be helping her feel a little stronger, but not real good either. She's still thinking that she won't be able to live along whether she decides to live near the kids or here. She, Laura and family and Brad and Janis are going to have a little vacation. They are leaving Friday for a few days at a lake side cabin in Wisconsin.
-
I am glad to hear that Mary seems to have settled and improved a little bit. Certainly it seems she won't be able to love alone now.
-
She seems to realize that she needs an assistant living type place, not a nursing home but a place where she can easily get some help if needs be. She hates to cook so she would love having meals prepared for her. She is such a good cook but she hates it.
-
Poor Mary, she cannot LOVE alone and she won't be able to live ALONG ............ hahahaha good job I know what you two are talking about ;D
Nana Jill had a stent and she was going to cardio rehab and said it was good. She told me to go but the hospital is too far away. I am sure it will help Mary and a little family trip away will be lovely (((((((((((((Mary)))))))))))))))) In her case also I am sure she will be better off in an Assisted living place especially if she does not like to cook. I once suggested to John in Perth we should look into it ... I don't like cooking ... he said 'Never in a million years'. !!!!
As a PS ... I have read how some of those places serve the most disgusting food ever !
-
I know, I'm with John "never in a million years" but we will probably end up in a facility if we live long enough. Mary says the place she likes here has good food and she has a couple friends from church who live there and she's eaten there. It's different, they don't serve meals at any certain time, you just order what you want as if you were in a restaurant. Mary loves it but then she hates to cook so maybe that makes the food taste better. I don't think I would LOVE any of it. Darien and I just wanted to be sure you were awake Moira, just checking you out with our "love" and "along"!
-
As long as Mary is happy to live in a place like that, then all the good.
Well met Moira
-
Mary doesn't really want to live in an assisted living place but this particular one she likes is in her mind better and she thinks she might be able to afford a one bedroom apartment there. When she runs out of money they would help her get Title 19 which is a welfare program and they would just keep paying her bill so she wouldn't be dumped out when the money runs out. These places are pricey, I think the one she wants is over two thousand dollars a month, but of course you don't need much else there. She wouldn't have a car so no car expense, no utilities, hardly any groceries but still you have other things and Mary doesn't have much money.
-
I am on the ball... most of the time :0
The place Mary is thinking about sounds good and I think $500 a week for everything is not a bad price or is it ? I have no idea but she can sell her house and have some money behind her and the Title 19 thing sounds great ! I wonder if we have that here. Maybe Nana will know so I will ask next time I see her. Nana had a mate Myra, living in a nice place like that up till recently when she sadly died quite suddenly.. aged 90 !.
-
Mary has very little money, I don't know how much but she's very iffy as to whether she can afford this place she likes. When she sells her house she should have something but she's still making payments on it so I don't know how much she would get from the sale after paying off the mortgage. She's lived there since they returned from Illinois but I don't remember when that was. Oh yes I know, they came back in 2001 so she has paid on the house for a long time. If you have something like Title 19 then you would no doubt call it something else. You can only go on Title 19 if you have pretty much NO MONEY. What did Myra die of so suddenly?
-
That is quite expensive. It would have to be very good for that, but I think that may be the price you pay for a very good place here as well. We have a similar thing to your Title 19, but I don't know what you would call it here. I hope Mary will be happy with whatever she chooses :)
-
This is one of the least expensive assisted living places in Waterloo, they are very high priced here. I think Mary would like it there but I think she sees the good sense to move closer to her kids. She has several nieces and nephews here but they aren't very close so I don't think they would be the greatest help. I don't know how able I will be to do much for her, I might be and I might not.
-
I agree, Mary should stay closer to her children. No Linda, you can't help her, I know you would want to, but it's time to look after you now
-
Right Darien, Mary would probably be better off closer to her kids and they could always help her and get her settled nearer to them. You can always ring Mary and chat to her.
Myra had a bad heart Linda but she was quite fit and still drove her car and took Nana Nita to the shops and for coffee every week !
-
Nana Nita will miss her friend and that's sad. I'm having a terrible time hearing on the phone recently. I think the chemo is affecting my hearing and it can. The stuff goes all over my body so it makes sense that everything can or could be affected. The other day when Mary and I talked I really had to struggle to hear but hopefully when the chemo is done I will do better.
-
Oh my goodness, your hearing as well is being affected. I didn't realise it did all these horrible things as well (((((((((((((((((((Linda)))))))))))))))))))
-
I don't know this for a fact and I'm going to ask the doctor next week but I do know I'm not hearing as well.
-
Most definitely tell your Dr about it Linda and see what he says.
-
I suppose you do have your hearing aids in when you talk to Mary Linda right ?
"Patients may not associate hearing loss with cancer treatment, but for many, the side effect is all too real. Some common chemotherapy drugs, especially those used to treat ovarian, testicular, colon and rectal cancers, may damage nerves and other tissue in the ears, particularly in patients receiving the drugs in high doses and those with pre-existing hearing issues. “Hearing loss as a consequence of chemotherapy is very real,”
I read about it and it is possible you are right Linda ! Just another problem for you to cope with
-
OHHHHHHHHHHHHH.............it's not my imagination then. I never had actually looked it up but you did and now we know.
-
Now you do know Linda!!! None the less tell your specialist
