Advice please
« on: December 11, 2019, 10:15:50 am »
My mum had a lot of books that we would all read and I always told her when she died I would want them, particularly certain ones and it was always agreed on by everyone. Just one of those things that families have, if you know what I mean. Recently I have found the new series on TV of Anne of Green Gables, one of my very favourite books written by LM Montgomery at the turn of the 20th century, the series is excellent and I could almost have the books, read and loved, so many years ago in front of me, but I never received those books. I have assumed over the years that Deb gave them to Sarah and was very upset over it at the time, but too grief stricken to do anything about it.
Fast forward to now and when I was at Kylie's yesterday I showed her a set of the Books that I had found on line that I was going to tell Robert about for my Christmas present and I told her how I have wondered all these years what happened to mums copies. Lo and behold she told me that Christene had them!!!!! She messaged her to ask and confirm and yes she said she had them and took a photo of all of the books she had of Mum's and there they were PLUS all of my Enid Blyton books and horse books!!!!! Christene said I could have them, but when asked how did she get them, she can't remember, she was only 15 at the time. I am going to see Deb today anyway and I am going to mention it to her and see how Chrissy ended up with them.
My quandary is, do I take them back or lave them with Chrissy? I am really torn as to what to do and absolutely hurt and furious that she has them. Not at her, but who ever gave them to her. I know it was 10 years ago, and they are only books, but oh how upset I am over the whole thing

((((((((((((((((((((((((Darien)))))))))))))))))))))))))
I can see how upset you are and I don't blame you.  Those books have meant so much to you for so long and I know you want them.  I think you should ask Chrissy for them, I can't imagine that she would not understand and especially if you explain to her how you feel.  You could will them to her after you are gone and she could keep them at that time.   She doesn't have time now to read books anyway!!  Do ask Deb how Chrissy got them and why and then let us know.  I guess the good thing is that you now know where they are, that is a little bit of good news anyway.
Sorry Darien, I feel your sadness clear from here!!

You have mentioned this before I remember, me being a book fan and a fan of Anne of Green Gables ! You did not know where they had ended up and if I remember you were supposed to ask Deb what happened to them !
I am sure Christene will give them to you and then you can do as Linda says and will them back to Christene. Is she a reader ?  Have you never seen them when you visit Christene's house ?
Do not get yourself in a tizz about it Darien. You now know where they are and you can get them and put them in your book case and read them at your leisure ((((((((((((((((((((((Darien)))))))))))))))))))))))))))Enjoy :)

Well I asked Deb today about the Anne books and she said that mum gave them to Sarah many years ago, so Sarah has the original ones and now I come to think on it, I remember that happening and being quite upset with mum for doing it.
Now as for the books that Chrissy has......... apparently they were my books that I had and gave to Belinda to keep in her bookcase in her room. When we moved up here to the Central Coast we had no room so I stored them in a box in an old wardrobe in the garage until Belinda had a place of her own and took them, which she in turn gave to Christene. Once Belinda told me this I remembered it all. I feel relieved and stupid at the same time !!!!!!!!!!!!

Now Linda, you might believe me when I say my memory is as bad as yours

Would Sarah want to give your Mum's books to you ?  Or would you now want your books back from Christene ?

No, I won't take back what Mum gave and I do know that Sarah too loved the books. I also won't take my books from Christene, but I know where they are if I want to reread any of them
