Foot
« on: October 24, 2022, 09:45:49 am »
I have broken a bone in the bottom of my foot!! I did it last night when I stepped up from the laundry into the kitchen, only one step, and stepped on the ball of my foot, just at the base of the toes, heard a crack and felt excruciating pain. Under my foot is all swollen and I can't walk on it, only by my heel. I am going to have a shower soon and get Robert to drop me off at the hospital. I didn't want to go last night, hoping it would be better this morning, it's not

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Darien))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))    Between you and your husband you seem to have FOOT and ankle  problems !!!!!!!!

Rest up and hopefully your kids and husband will take care of you and DO the cooking  and cleaning  :) Good luck and sending love and prayers :)

I have broken both my ankles, the left one when walking Kiska and then just over a year later, I broke the other one walking Maggie and Hugo.

Obviously my osteoporosis is getting worse as remember earlier this year I had an avulsion fracture in my right hip and I hadn't fallen or anything and now I have broken the 4th metatarsal bone in my right foot just walking up a step!!!!!!!! I was only in A&E yesterday for 3 hours and thankfully they didn't plaster my foot, but put me in a boot so at least I can shower without it and I don't need it on to sleep. I can weight bear on it, but I am using a cane to help me get about a bit better. Of course I can't drive anywhere, so Robert has to take me to any appointments like the fracture clinic next Wednesday morning and to have my hair trimmed this afternoon. It is very painful though, so I am taking panadeine forte.
You are right Linda, I am relieved it didn't happen before my UK trip or even while I was over there!!! I will however be wearing a clumsy boot on our stay in Sydney next weekend

Oh Darien, I wish this hadn't happened and I'm sure the osteoporosis is the problem.  I hate to think of you in such pain and I have to wonder how long that will last.  Does the doctor give you any idea of healing time?
Sorry you will have to be in a boot for your time in Sydney, DARN!!!

Bugger. I had forgotten about your Sydney trip too !  IT must all be caused by your Osteoporosis surely and has the Dr told you this is so ? (((((((((((((((((((((((((((Darien)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Can it ever get better ?

The pain is easing somewhat now, I do have to be very careful how I place my foot though!!! I can't take the dogs for a walk though and it seems that every time I start to feel better and lose weight, something stops me!!!!! No, osteoporosis does not get better, but I am on calcium tablets and I have an injection every 6 months for it to try and prevent any further damage.

The short answer is no, osteoporosis cannot be completely reversed and is not considered curable, but there are a number of health and lifestyle adjustments you can make to improve bone loss. Your provider may also prescribe you medications to help rebuild and slow down bone loss.

I hadn't even noticed Linda

I'm glad the pain isn't as bad.  I just wonder how many more broken bones you will have?  I hope NONE!! So who walks your dogs now that you can't?  (((((((((((((((((((Darien)))))))))))))))))))

Then the moral of the story is ...do whatever you feel able to do.  Forget about weight loss, forget about horrible daughters, forget about walking the dogs and just do what you feel able to do !!! Stay in bed ALL day if you feel like it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make Robert cook dinner if you DON'T feel like doing it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ((((((((((((((((((((((Darien)))))))))))))))))))))))))

OK, OK I know you will not do this BUT it is a Thought !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dogs will be fine until I am able to walk them again as there is no one who will walk them. I am stuck at home with them as I can't drive anyway and they love that. I love walking and the more weight I lose the better I feel and the more I can walk, so it's a catch 22 situation at the moment. Not to worry as this too will pass.

Losing weight is a lot easier if you can walk, it really makes a difference.  Right now you can't walk but one day you can get back at it.

I am sure the dogs will love having you home all day and I think you have said that before,  how happy they were when you were laid up with your ankle !  (((((((((((((Darien))))))))))))))
You can walk all you need in a couple of weeks :)

I go to the fracture clinic next Wednesday morning so we will see what happens from then on and of course we too are away next weekend, from the 4th November to the 7th November. I was looking forward to wandering around Sydney again and even going back to that gorgeous cafe and do some more knitting Hopefully I can walk that far with this wretched foot. We are staying in a very posh hotel this time, The Fullerton.

The Fullerton Hotel Sydney offers luxurious 5-star rooms and suites with award-winning services. Book now for your business or leisure stay in Sydney CBD.
