Joe
« on: December 15, 2023, 11:06:04 am »
Just in the last hour I got a text from Brant.  He sent a group text to the close relatives.  I knew Joe was having a CT scan of his abdomen today.  I had asked him "why" and he said he didn't really know, but maybe because of his mono?  That doesn't make any sense but anyway, he had the CT scan today and they found he has a big blood clot in his abdomen.  Brant said that he took him to the ER and I assume he's still there.  Brant said he would update us but so far no news.  I asked if Susie knew.  I was about to call her and I didn't want to mention it if she didn't know.  Brant said Joe called her on the way to the ER so I called Susie right away.  She didn't answer and then I realized it is Bingo afternoon so that is where she would be.  If it were me, I wouldn't go to Bingo, I'd be too upset but Susie would, that's just SUSIE.  We are so alike in so many ways and so NOT alike in others.

More about Joe........here is the text I just now got from Brant.

The clot is in the inferior vena cava, this is the major vein that leads back to the heart.  They are starting him on blood thinners and then they are running additional tests to see why he developed the clot.

This all sounds a bit familiar to me Linda so I looked it up............. I think I had a blockage in one of the 2 arteries there and I had a stent put in .... in Perth. Not sure which one it was and I Am not going to look it up on my medical records at this time of night !!!!!!!!!!!!  Keep me awake all night !  Maybe tomorrow !

Sending love and prayers to (((((((((((((((((((((Joe)))))))))))))))))))))))) I am sure Susie does not understand any of it !  Perhaps that is not a bad thing in her case (((((((((((((Susie)))))))))))))

I don't remember you having a blood clot but you may have, but I don't think a stent would be used in that case, but I don't know.
We called Joe this morning and he was home, they sent him home with the blood thinner medication after talking with 3 specialists.  He never was admitted to the hospital.  He had just gotten home from physical therapy, they wanted him to continue with that.  It's Brant's business so Joe will be very carefully watched.  He sounded great so we were very relieved.

I had to look this up as I am unfamiliar with the inferior vena cava. Thank goodness they caught it early as it could have travelled to his lungs!!!!! Blood thinners will decrease it, but he will no doubt have another scan to check that they are working. I am sure ((((((((((Joe)))))))))) will be fine.

They don't put stents in for blood clots Moira, your stent was put in for a blockage in one of the major arteries to your heart

We called and talked to Joe this morning, he was driving home from physical therapy.  They didn't keep him in the hospital, just sent him home with a blood thinner and maybe some other medication.  They said they wanted him to keep on with the PT so he went this morning.  He sounded great and I was surprised and relieved for sure.  I'm going to call Susie when I'm done here talking to you girls.  He wasn't sure if he would go visit her today or not.

I never did get round to looking up my med. records today ..... but I did not have a clot just a 'blockage' in my main artery. Thats as much as I remember but it cost the Health Insurers a few thousand dollars to fix it !  I think I was also put on blood thinners at one stage. !

I hope the blood thinners do work for Joe and if he can still go to PT and manage to live alone and cope OK, the good for him ((((((((((((((((((((Joe)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I didn't know that, I thought there were only a few kinds but all I really know about is Warfarin since Larry takes it.

He's doing better now, out and about again visiting Susie on a daily basis.  Matt and Kristen are coming Thursday and will stay until the day after Christmas.  He will enjoy having them there, I know he hates being alone though he doesn't really complain.  He has his cat Smokey and the day that cat is gone, will be a very bad day for Joe.  He loves that cat SO MUCH and he is a very nice cat, very friendly.  The bad thing Smokey is old and too fat but he is still here for now.  I know Susie misses him too.  She and Joe Facetime and Susie always asks Joe to show her Smokey.
