May
« on: December 10, 2022, 09:47:13 am »
As you know, Robert and I were going to sit with May today while Gail and Rab went Christmas shopping with Zurie. That has been cancelled, Rab rang yesterday afternoon to say that May has been trying to get out all afternoon. This started a few weeks ago now that May would get out and wander up the street, then come back and tell Rab that she thought she would pop in to see them while she was out!!! Now she says she going to see her Mum, or her brothers who have all passed now. Yesterday though, was very bad. Even when Rab went to the toilet he caught her trying to get out again Gail and Rab thought it unfair on us to be put in that position and to ease any more stress on May, they rang Sammi and told her they couldn't take Zurie, such a shame as Zurie loves being spoiled by them. Robert and I will pop over this morning and have a cuppa with them instead. They will still come over tomorrow as while May won't recognise anyone else, she knows Robert and I are family, even if she doesn't remember our names The first sign of May getting stressed though and they will take her home.
Dementia is a heartbreaking thing to watch and I am at a loss as to what to do, but I really think Gail needs to give up work and become a full time carer now. She won't though as she still has her head buried in the sand

Oh no, this is just awful and YES, I agree that Gail should stay home with May, she shouldn't be alone.  It seems like people with dementia or Alzheimer's do try to "get out", I know they keep those units locked in places where they live, I mean like a nursing home.  It's nice to know that May does recognize you and Robert, not that she exactly KNOWS you but in a way she still must.  I think maybe May is about my age, maybe younger.  I'm glad you and Robert don't have to have the responsibility, that is GOOD.
Poor little Zurie will be disappointed and she is too young to really understand why they can't take her out.

I did not want to read this post as I knew it was not good !
I do not know much about Alzheimers  or Dementia really except it is an oldies thing and they lose their minds and but they can still function  ! ( I really do not want to know about it !!!!) This all sounds awful and yes I think someone should be home with May now or maybe it is time May was in a more safe environment where she was being looked after 24/7 ????? ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((May))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I agree with all you have both said, but I do know Gail and Rab won't put May in a home and I don't believe that is the answer just yet. May needs someone with her 24 hours now and it's time Gail gave up her work, or worked from home.
May will be 80 next September, so three years younger than you Linda.

I was pretty sure May is younger than I am and it's sad that she has declined so much.  I won't hope Gail will seriously consider staying home with May.  Why did I think May is Rab's mother?

May has just turned 79. I don't know what Gail will do, but they will certainly have to consider someone being at home with her when they are working. May truly is a beautiful soul and doesn't deserve this. She nursed her own mother, Robert and Gails grandmother, through this until the day she died

May must be a lovely person caring for her mother like that and NOW when she needs help, I HOPE Gail will see that and do something about it.

Malcolm, Mays husband, passed away quite a few years ago now with diabetes induced kidney failure. May nursed him as well and he died at home too. It's not right that now that she free, she is unable to do anything

Definitely a sad story but does May realise anything that is happening to her nowadays.... and do you think maybe Gail will be playing on the fact that May cannot comprehend ?   ((((((((((May))))))))))

Oh please don't think Rab and Gail are not looking after May, they adore her. It's just that now May needs a lot more care than she has needed before and Gail, even though she knows, she buries her head in the sand.

I can see how it would be easy for Gail to bury her head in the sand.  She doesn't want to face the fact that her mother is failing.
Is May's other health pretty good?
