I didn't know there were Arthritis aids, maybe I will need some.  I'm walking better today and have been dressed all day.  I was here this morning and don't know if I told you I got my hair cut today and picked up a few things at the grocery store.

I had pain with my clothes in my GROIN area when I had Pancreatitis Linda and Appendicitis ~!  Have you ever asked about these things ????? I suppose you have but but but !!!!!!
Good to hear you are dressed today too at last ...... and went out and did a bit of shopping and a had a hair cut :) That will do you good too,  even if you did not drive the car :)

Its my HIP... On the outside area of my hip that pains me when I get up in the mornings and walk about and also sometimes if I have been sitting in the car driving anywhere ! It wears off once I get walking around but it can be painful at first and I hobble a bit !
I know nothing much about Arthritis aids either .... did those gloves do anything for you Darien ? Errr was it gloves or was it socks ???????????????????? Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen ads for those things to help you put on your socks..... Too much hassle ..... Pass.

I just wear a sleeveless tee shirt and shorts, special PJ shorts in summer ...... and so far this winter I am not even wearing the long PJ winter pants as my bed is WARM and the granny flat does not feel too cold either, not like the heatless Studio last winter !!!  It is COLD outside but warm in here :)

I wonder about my arthritis diagnosis too Moira, the pain I had last week was so BAD.  I've never heard of people having such excruciating pain from arthritis.  I still feel like something else was going on but I'm better now, a little pain but you really couldn't call it pain, more discomfort I guess.   I think appendicitis pain is usually on the right side, isn't it?  My pain was in the groin and hip on my left side.
I'll just see how it goes I guess.  I have an appointment at Mayo next month and will have a scan of my torso and will talk to the doctor about this "episode" I just had.

Did you not have a scan done on your hip though, Linda? I did wonder about how much pain you were in, yes arthritis is very painful, but your pain seemed a bit extreme. It sounded like the pain I has last year when I was in Canberra. Do you remember that? I went to A&E down there with it and I had an Xray. The Dr told me it was arthritis, which I thought was very odd as the pain was excruciating and not like my normal pain. He advised when I came home to have a cortisone injection and some PT. So I came home, went to see my Dr who sent me for a CT Scan which showed I had an avulsion fracture!!!!!!
Here is a site for you and yes, I find the gloves do help me with my hands.

OH HELP IF there is ever a time when I need to use one of these things to put my socks on every day then I will STOP wearing  socks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or teach John how to do it for me... well he IS a nurse !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I do remember when you were away and had the pain Darien, do you still go to that PT class  ?

My hip pain is in my left hip and left side too Linda and it is worse when I get up in the mornings ..... when I start walking and put any weight on it and it also hurts in my back .....  the back bit of my hip area. Thankfully it does wear off with use but I can limp around a bit at first !   MY dad always had arthritis problems in his older age but he played a lot of Hockey and was a sports teacher in the RAF and later for disabled kids / people.  !

I have just read about the Avulsion fracture of a hip and that sounds just like my problem right now since I tripped getting up onto this ... half made deck !
The primary treatment for a hip or pelvic avulsion fracture is rest. Your doctor might recommend that you use crutches to keep weight off the hip while it heals. IT is when I first put any weight on it that it hurts ! Maybe I should stay in bed for a week and do nothing   :) :) :)

The pain with an avulsion fracture does not go away, but gets worse with use. Arthritic pain does not go away either, not if you are in a flare up, but it isn't as bad as the fracture. With 'normal' (for want of a better word) does ease as the joint is being used, which is why they recommend exercises and walking, but that sometimes can be too painful to do.

No, I no longer have PT for my hip, it is no longer needed, but my hip can still cause me some grief. I doubt very much if you have an avulsion fracture ((((((((((Moira))))))))))

Oh so maybe I do have Normal Arthritis .... a family thing ! I will accept that as opposed to an Avulsion fracture then :)  My hip does not give me pain once i get moving thank goodness .... just when I stop for a length of time and start again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the moral of this story is Keep Going and Do Not Stop !

So you did not rest when you had your Avulsion fracture Darien .. is that not when you went for PT ?

Yes I rested my hip, I couldn't do anything much anyway!!! I even bought a stick to help me walk, especially if I had to go out. I did have physio on my hip, but only gentle massage and a few exercises to do, which I did. My hip still hurts sometimes, especially if I move it in a certain way.

No doubt you do have arthritis Moira, our bones lose a lot of calcium when we go through menopause. Eostrogen supplies our body with a lot of calcium and of course we lose that during menopause. Do you take calcium tablets?

Yes, I had a scan done on my hip and all they  mentioned was arthritis but it came on so suddenly and I NEVER had anything even remotely like it before.  I think I have told  you that in recent years when I walk for exercise that my hips would both ache, but just a dull ache and it stopped when I stopped walking.  That seems to me what arthritis pain might be like. The pain I had was excruciating and around the clock.  BUT wouldn't a fracture show on a CT scan?
My hip is MUCH better but not totally good either.  I'll see how it goes I guess.
I'm still waiting for word about an appointment with an orthopedic doctor so I'll see what he/she says.

I remember also having treatment for my hip pain and massage / exercises  in Perth as well as Dunedin but it did not really do much in the long run.  I thought I needed a stick today this morning as my hip was worse then normal so I took 2 Paracetamol / Panadol pills.  Now at 9:20 PM and the pain has not come back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I don't take many pills for pain normally but today I needed them ( well not since my migraines stopped after meno !) !!!  NO I don't take Calcium either and I don't think I ever have done. Olive Leaf Extract and Magnesium yes :)

Keep going then Linda and get it checked out again at your next Orthopedic appt. (((((((((((((((((((((((((Linda))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I hope those pills will keep your pain away.  I didn't take the oxycodone last night and I slept soundly, none today either and I don't plan to take any more.  It's still sore when I walk but not bad.

Yes Linda, if there was a fracture in your hip, then a scan would have shown it. I did not know that arthritis could cause so much pain either, not like you suffered ((((((((((Linda)))))))))) but I am not all that surprised either as the hips hold a lot of body mass and you use them so very often, which is why hip replacements are so very popular.

I have arthritis in so many places of my body that in the cold months I take two panadeine forte every morning, it's the only way I can make it through the day.

SO is it OK to take the stronger Paracetamol daily ?  MY 2 basic ? Paracetamol pills worked until I got up this morning then the pain came back as soon as I put my feet on the floor and weight on my hip !  I did take a couple more late this morning and they did help and so far all is good .... I am off to bed shortly so we shall see.    I am convincing myself that it is the cold that is setting off my Arthritis :)
Just to complain a bit more and not mention the weather .... when I sit at the table and do my colouring in .. mainly after dinner in the evening for an hour or so before I come on here .... but also sometimes in the afternoon I colour in....  if I am bored or do not go for a short Nana nap ... .. then I find my neck feels achy and sore also !!!!!!!!!!   Thats mainly when I take the Paracetamol .. and so it helps my hip and my neck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bloody old age !
