I don't know how young families cope either and there is always someone local around here asking for food for hungry people !
The supermarkets are making a fortune and using less staff too !~

We have so many Food Banks over here now and I often donate things. When I think of all the food that gets wasted these days and the big grocery stores are the worst for that. All the bread, fresh vegetables and other things that are thrown out each and every day. It's just so wrong!!! I know that the big supermarkets have a Food Pantry that they donate too, but there is still just so much waste

Our Food Banks get food from restaurants, I do know that.  I hear lots about how much food is wasted at the school lunches, kids don't like it, they don't eat it and it gets dumped out.  Of course on pizza day it would be different and there would be days where the food is more popular.  I think they have made some changes so maybe it's better than it  used to be.

We don't see that many food banks around here .. maybe in the towns but Waverley school just had one for Christmas boxes for ??? poor families. All the kids donated some foods tins etc.  The kids get free school lunches here and they HAVE to eat them ... Greta hides what she doesn't want in her bag !!!!  So she tells me, then gives it to the dogs at home !

They must watch what the kids eat, never heard of such a thing but they might do that now for all I know.  Emma hasn't had a school lunch now for a few years but I know she didn't have to eat anything she didn't want.  I suppose they encouraged them to do it maybe?  I'll ask her.
So Greta puts cooked food in her bag?  Isn't that a mess then when she gets home?

We don't have free lunches here in Australia, I used to make the girls lunch daily and they would take them to school. As a treat I would let them buy a tuck shop lunch once a week, usually on Fridays. I think we have discussed this before as it sounds vaguely familiar.

Perhaps Greta keeps a plastic bag in her bag to put the food into

Our school lunches are only free to poor kids, otherwise you pay here but not a lot.  I don't remember what Emma paid, if I would remember I would ask Pam.   Maybe Greta does have a plastic bag to put the food in, I sure hope so.

All the kids get a free lunch here as it is a Rural school !   Nothing flash according to the kids .. pizza, sandwiches, ravioli, pies, .... according to Jack :)  Greta is a fussy eater ... she gets away with it at home ....  she just puts the school stuff she does not want into her school bag.
I think she actualleh has 2/3 school bags !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I often see one hanging on the washing line !

Thats how it used to be back in the olden days Linda, free school lunches only for the poor families or people on the dole ( unemployment ) I have no idea nowadays.

Surely Greta has to eat whatever Bonnie or Dan has cooked? They don't make her a 'special' meal do they??!!!!!!

So Moira, Greta puts the food she doesn't want into her bag.........does she have a plastic bag inside or does the food just go in as is?  If you often see one hanging on the line maybe it's because she's putting those lunch things right into her bag.
Kids are rather picky it seems, at least when they are little.  Pam didn't like a lot of things but she LOVED snack food.  Tom didn't like snack food, junk food, whatever you call it.........he always wanted a MEAL.

The school lunches are not served on plates I don't think but in paper bags  or maybe paper plates inside paper bags as they are brought into the school by some local catering company.  Nothing flash but all free ~!
Greta is a fussy eater .... whoever cooks whatever ! She eats what she wants . She comes here for yoghurt, jelly and crackers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and madarins in a tin !!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, then her lunch probably comes in a bag and she just puts that bag into her school bag so there is no mess.  Our school lunches were like a meal, potatoes, meat, veggie or salad.  Sometimes it was pizza or chili, spaghetti, things you wouldn't put in a bag.  My kids and Emma just ate what they wanted and threw the rest in the garbage.  School lunches do account for a lot of waste.
I didn't make Pam special meals either, she just ate whatever of what we had that she liked and didn't eat the rest.  She eats everything now except mushrooms and she says she doesn't like pork, but why, I don't know?

That's the problem with a lot of children, they get fussy with what food they won't eat!! Kylie was like that, but if she didn't eat what I cooked, then she went without, simple really.

Kids will be kids!!!
I'm trying to think what I didn't like as a child but all I can't think about is MILK and I HATED IT SO MUCH!  It seems like I liked about everything else that my Mother cooked.  Susie was very picky and the funny thing is she was a fat little girl and I was super skinny.  In her teen years it was discovered she had a thyroid problem and got on medication so she slimmed right down then.

I was at Boarding School and we ate what was given to us or we went hungry !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY kids did try to be fussy now and again about what I cooked for dinner BUT it was eat it or leave it most of the time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They did eat their school lunches .. home made sandwiches and maybe a biscuit and piece of fruit !

Who would have thought that Susie might have a thyroid problem ??? How did they find that ?
