Three Friends

We are having some of your cold weather here at the moment Moira, a lot of rain, which we needed and strong winds too. The house was rattling last night with the wind and I am sure a tree or two must have come down somewhere!!!! We are back in our winter PJ's and clothes again!!!!

Bugger Darien it must be from the Vanuatu Cyclone Lola All last night, on and off it belted down and the wind howled and the granny flat shook !!!!! Kept me awake !!!!!!! Today was a bit better and NOT so cold but still very windy ! I thought my plants may have suffered but they are all OK

Jack was off school with his cough and sinus  so he was here most of the day on MY computer then Greta came after school as Bonnie had to take Cash to Whanganui for his cricket game and Dan was off playing golf up the road in some AMATEUR golf tournament !!!!!!!! All right for some I say ! 

It's still cold, windy and raining here. It was supposed to have cleared by now, but this cold change is lingering around. We needed the rain though as we hadn't had for quite some time here and some lawns were looking very brown already!!!!! I don't know if this has anything to do with the Vanuatu cyclone as I don't look at any news these days, but it could be.

Today I could have stripped off as it was so warm   The wind dropped and the sun shone even Dan, Bon and kids went to the beach ! For a paddle
 
I went to Hawera to visit the garage sale of plants to raise money for ParaFed .... 
You may remember last year I went to this woman's plant sale in her garage and got some herbs and plants .... and she remembered me from the last time I visited !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway I got some herbs and then visited an Open Garden in Patea en-route back to Waverley as it is ' Taranaki Garden week ' .  I went to                           https://www.gardenfestnz.co.nz/gardens/glascroft/

The owner was a bloke ( about late 40s)  from Lancashire, UK and I picked up on his accent .... he was surprised till I said I was from Yorkshire ... always a bit of a " I am better than you because I come from Yorkshire " ...   ( FYI an old saying that Yorkshire is better than Lancashire  Linda   Anyway the garden was lovely and full of flowers and herbs .... my kind of garden    

I came home with MORE plants and herbs and still NO proper garden !

I know you will be using the logs for your garden beds, but what about the soil to fill them? How will you manage that? I hope it will all be done for you soon (((((Moira)))))

I know nothing of hiring a rototiller ... never heard of one but I can imagine what you mean    When it stops raining and gets a bit warmer then I will make a garden bed with logs along one bit of the deck and I have lots of soil in a big pile at the end of the granny flat... covered in grass but I can dig into it !    Thats my plan anyway ! Bugger the cows !

You probably could hire a rototiller, not too sure if a man is attached to it though or one has to use it ones self.

Moira, do you put weed mat down before you fill your garden bed? Perhaps you could bribe the boys to help dig into the mound of soil you have I believe you will be much happier and less bored once you get your garden beds up and running. You could always get some electric fencing around the garden to stop the cows!!!!!
